Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY

Even if Kennedy turns out to be the next Ablett, on what he's shown so far we come out the clear losers in this deal.

No-one's a winner or loser here until we get a year or two down the track.

Seriously. There were plenty here howling down the Vince move, or Cross, or Garlett.

We have lost 2 starting 22 players and in exchange received a fringe player and a random pick at 29.

Not too sure how we improved the list

Toumpas was never a starting 22 player. Should have been. But that was the problem.

If Kennedy turns out to be the next Ablett, be it Gary Snr or Jnr, I reckon we win.

JKH is way above Kennedy is in terms of decision making and disposal. I watched a couple of games with Kennedy playing and yes, quick(ish), goes hard and very competative but seems rushed, lacks vision and coughs the ball up a lot with vague nothing kicks. Hope he really comes on and proves me wrong !

If Kennedy is getting a game in 2016 then we are in real trouble.

We gave the guy 2.5 seasons. Matt jones is getting a bloody game and still has a contract.

Jimmy never got a real chance. We could have traded him for #29 in the next 5 drafts.

Jimmy was given many chances. He never took them

He was a bust.

That's the spirit. And Jack Watts will win the Brownlow.

FFS, Toumpas had the same chance as Viney, and after 3 years, couldn't even get a game when we were crying out for players due to our injury list. Even first year rookies who started the season in the VFL development league were being picked in front of him.

We've had a really good development setup in place for the last couple of years at least, and the only player it seem not to have benefited is JT.

At least Matt jones performed in the VFL. The toump didn't even fire there, cut our losses we drafted a dud with a early pick. Time for us to move on now

why don't people look past the trade and just simply look at the highlights of Ben Kennedy and keep this in mind when doing so ......................player attributes !

We traded out two players that just don't/won't/can't have a genuine dip for long enough, one cant tackle , one wont chase to put on a tackle, both don't get in and under and win their own ball. Both don't really want to be here. What good are they too us really?

Yes I wanted more out of the trade in return. But did it happen, no, lets move on.

Yes BK might have been on the cusp at the filth , been solid in the reserves and not given much of a go by Bucks and therefore we instinctively think he is not starting 22 quality, but if he brings those qualities and willingness to the MFC shown in the footage, then FFS give him a chance to have a dip for the club we all love. (as with any other recruits we get)

If Toumpas had dominated at VFL level, but struggled at AFL level, I'd be uncomfortable with letting him go. But from what I saw of him at VFL level, he didn't have the physical or football attributes to become a good AFL player. Kennedy on the other hand, dominates at VFL, and shown a bit at AFL level without getting consistent game time.

When you watch the Toumpas' highlights on the Port website, the common factor is that Toumpas has time and space. Rarely do you see him do anything outstanding in a contested situation. Once again, at least Kennedy shows something talent in contested situations.

The most positive I can be about our trade period to date is that it will be a bonanza for the Scorps. A bit similar to the coup orchestrated by Neeld of bringing Byrnes, Gillies, Pedersen and Rodan to the club in one glorious trade period not so long ago.

Toumpas was about player number 34 and Howe was pushing himself out of the 22.

Melksham has removed him from the backline, and forward - Howe is a liability because he plays from behind and doesn't work defensively.

We haven't improved the list much, but we have improved it.

What if Toumpas was playing for us in 2016?

What is the difference? Both from the same draft... both haven't done much... is it because one was taken at ND4 and the other at ND19?

Coz you know that means nothing, right?

Kennedy will bring double the effort and determination than what Howe & Toumpas brought combined. I'd rather bring in players who set the bar high in terms of training, work ethic and 1%'s than blokes who sit on our list and provide nothing.

You're not seriously trying to tell us Fyfe is better than Scully, are you?

Uh... Pick 1 mean anything to you? Clearly Sculldawg is better than a spud picked at 20.

That's why he's the 6 million dollar man.

Give me a spell. Over his career, Howe has never been close to getting dropped. Under Roos, he's been shuffled from one end of the ground to the other. Roos' mantra has been all about defence, and Howe has been played there to bolster it. Now Roos talks about becoming more attack minded, and we've lost a player that can make an impact up forward.

And what are you basing Melksham's instant success on? Lumumba had a far more impressive CV, and he hardly set the world on fire.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
