Your now comparing midfielder vs a forward.. FMD you have now officially gone into damage control.

My work here is mission accomplish.

Sorry, maybe I should have use the sarcastica font.. Thought my point would be obvious, you can't judge players just on stats, especially when they haven't played a similar amount of games.

The stats say Gysberts is a better player than Pedo, but clearly he's not, you agree? Now maybe you can see my point about using miniscule differences in stats to say Pedo is better than Dawes.

Seriously, the overrating of this guy is reaching epic proportions.

The marking stats between him and Dawes are pretty much identical, but Dawes covers much more ground and can play more game time. Pedo makes about 3 good leads and then he's spent for the day. Should have been re-rookied as big man injury cover if our list was genuinely improving. His re-signing is a signal that no one is biting on our trade bait.

I agree that he's a bog ordinary and inconsistent player who flames in occasionally, but his re-contracting says absolutely nothing about how we're progressing on trades.

Dawes has a premiership, Pedo was traded by North for Gysberts.

Seriously, the Pedo overrating is getting out of control now.

Your arguments are so laughably weak. You punish players for being injured ("Dawes played more games herp derp"), and you place a higher value on players who have a premiership. Mitch Morton is a premiership player. Gary Ablett Snr is not. It's a nothing argument.

And knowing how your brain works, let me jump ahead and say no, I'm not comparing Pedersen to Ablett.

As of RIGHT NOW, Dawes and Pedo are of very similar capabilities. Their best is very good, their worst is awful. Right now, you'd say that what Pedo has over Dawes is a greater level of consistency. Dawes ceiling on any given week is higher, but not by a lot.

At the very least, being of similar age and capability, you'd hope that at any given time, one of them will be performing at or close to a level that warrants selection. It is providing healthier competition for their position over the next 12 months and is the right decision.

I'm not saying Pedo is absolutely useless and Dawes is a star.

I'm saying their output is almost identical, yet one is in the leadership group, has premiership experience, is younger, fitter, quicker and plays more game time. So to me it's crazy to give the older plodder who missed most of the year such praise and the other such scorn.

When your comparing two forwards who play in similar position i would think stats can be quite relevant to be 7honest..

Hogan talking about the forwardline next year:

Looking ahead to 2016, Hogan said he was excited about gaining some teammates back from injury to create a revamped forward line, including Sam Frost and Dean Kent.

“It’s really exciting. Sam Frost, who has also come in [from GWS], is one of our key players internally and he’s super exciting,” he said.

“I don’t think I’ve seen many athletes like him. He’s lightening quick, so we’ll hopefully have him up there next year playing alongside me, which would be handy.

“Kenty as well, is another player inside our four walls who is highly rated and probably does the team roles better than anyone else at the club, so it’s a super exciting prospect.

“Even though we have all of these young players, we also have Jeffy [Garlett] and Dawsey (Chris Dawes), so we’ve got that good mix and balance. We all get along well, so it’s really exciting.”

Stuie on Pedo:

"Ugh.... Old, slow & now injury prone.

Hardly a morale-boosting signing, and more of a white flag for our trade period.

Amazing how much of a superstar he's apparently become since being out almost the whole year"

"Seriously, the overrating of this guy is reaching epic proportions."

What would Hogan (& Roos) know?

They have obviously not seen the stats

There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.

That is a false assumption without logic

If he plays the same, the average is the same.

The greater the sample the more 'accurate' possibly the result is, but you cant say that number would be greater, the same or less unless those games are actually played.

The average is what it is

and one could argue, in this context, the larger the sample the more out of date it is i.e. irrelavance increases

the only way the sample can increase is to go further back in time

Solid re-signing. as Dawes was flakey Pedo stood in and was instrumental in the handful of games he played.

Would think he still has a bit in the tank so 1 yr perfect extension from here to end. Go Dees!

Good i like Pedo

He gives 100%. He is no Ferrari but he does a tough job

Agree. He is a better grab than Dawes, maybe not as prolific a goal-scorer, but Dawes has been very poor in that regard this year.

What's more, Pedersen not only uses his body well in contests, but if he doesn't mark it he at least brings the ball to ground. On top of that, he can pinch hit in the ruck and is a better swing-man than Dawes could ever be.

I know who i'd be selecting first to line-up next to Hogan, when both are fit.

Do you understand the word 'back up'? They usually don't get too many games...

OK fine then, forgive me for not doing cartwheels over our retention of a Bog ordinary backup

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
