My concern and I know the trade period hasn't officially even started yet is that we won't get this "A" grader and will be a "B" or "C+" player.

That won't help us much.

Of course an A grader is very unlikely to come here. But it's fun to speculate

I know it seems like a given that he is Pies bound, but I can't help but think we're in this guys ear with a huge long term deal. Why wouldn't we be? The only thing I can think of is that he's younger than the A grader we apparently seek.

In my mind we are no doubt ideally trying to lure:

Treloar

Dangerfield

Bennell

Prestia ( no way we've given up on this guy)

+ some fringe Swans, Hawks, Gold Coast, GWS mids.

We put in a big offer to Treloar.

It was of Collingswood and Richmond. Don't think we were ever a chance.

If Prestia was serious about leaving GC this year, he'd make it known as other contracted players have done (Boyd, Redden, McCarthy). He's even made a point of saying that he'll play out his contract at GC, so why would anyone believe otherwise?

No, he didn't. His manager did...

It's only in the last year that players have broadcast their intentions to leave clubs before the grand final. Prestia has never personally said anything to the media, his manager made a statement and everyone went away. I'm just going to quietly hold my breath on behalf of the rest of you.

A good example is Aish. Widely known that he'll probably leave but hasn't said boo. B&F's now completed for both clubs, so the coming fortnight could see some announcements. I'm clutching at straws I know, but trying to distract myself from the Milkshake train wreck...

Hope you're right Fork. Prestia and Bennell would be simply game-changing additions to our midfield.

And not every player conducts their negotiations through the media, even though a handful seemingly do these days.

Prestia, Bennell, O'Meara... Are we just desperate to get one of the Suns mids?

Two or three'd be nice.

If I were Prestia, and if I was considering leaving a team that was likely to be very competitive for several years (allowing that their current problems are temporary & will be sorted out), I'd need to be sure that the team I was going to was also likely to be very competitive.

And if I was thinking about coming to MFC, I would have cooled a lot on this over our last 6-8 games, and I'd want to see signs of major improvement next year. No way I'd want to come to a club whose midfield might struggle (because they don't combine well) for the rest of my career.

I reckon it's all up to us to improve out of sight next year. If we do, we've got him. And fair enough.

Conca and Ben Lennon haven't been anything to write home about

To early to call on Cory Ellis

I will give you Vlastuin and Brandon Ellis

Under the new FD I think we have nailed it with Salem & Brayshaw

Were they responsible for choosing the so called footballer, 'Toumpas'?

I think there's a connection because the Suns have been linked with Jeremy Howe.

Reckon that's a reasonable line WJ

I've got a feeling Gold Coast will amount to absolutely nothing. Ablett will keep them going for a year or two to play a finals series then retire.

Once the novelty of living on the Gold Coast wears off, they'll want to come home and play out their careers at the G.

I think this is the key here.

If Howe wants say $650k a year and we not prepared to give it to him and The Suns do because they will now have plenty of room in their cap with Bennell and OMeara wanting to leave, then it would be ultra convenient to do a deal with us.

I agree. This might sound dramatic and a little premature but I'd suggest they're on the cusp of a rebuild.

Bennell and Dixon gone, Hunt, Campbell both flops (along with other established talent they drafted), Ablett injured and ageing, O'Meara potentially looking elsewhere. they'll struggle to keep Prestia and Gorringe supposedly wants out.

Throw Howe, Watts, Dawes in with an early draft pick and we have the beginnings of a trade.

"GWS Giants coach Leon Cameron says that Adam Treloar is no certainty to join Collingwood, despite the young midfielder nominating the Pies as his preferred destination."

Change to swoop in potentially?

Posted

I'm probably being overly negative, but a quote like that says to me that Cameron is trying to force the Pies into giving them exactly what they want and frightening them into action. Of course there are other clubs who are keen, like the Tigers, and it may scare the Pies and make them be more flexible at the trade table.

Some interesting points in there if true.

Aaron Hall touring Essendon facilities. If he leaves the Suns, we must chase him hard. I could understand if he ended up at one of the bigger clubs, but if he goes to the Bombers, I will be disappointed.

While we are looking at spuds like Melksham we are just letting Aaron Hall tour Essendons facilities with obviously intent to seriously look at this guy..

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
