well, they were all talented, but not ruthless winners. we were absolutely pants'd in 2000 gf.. by a hungry outifit that wante our blood in a bottle. & they got more than that they got our souls as well.

we went backwards from that pantsing... you can see the leadup from 96' we weren't really up to it, snuck in 2000, thrashed & never really recovered to get better.

1996 - 14th

1997 - 16th

1998 - 4th

1999 - 14th

2000 - 3rd

2001 - 11th

2002 - 6th

2003 - 14th

2004 - 5th

2005 - 7th

2006 - 7th

2007 - 14th

2008 - 16th

we recruited to fill holes around 2003, but we really weren't good enough, genuinely. this club never works hard enough defensively, so other clubs love playing us, & we always over estimate our depth of talent.

Recruiting in the early to mid 00s did not address the changing style of the game which was contested footy...we all know the failed early picks from 07-13...club had too many coaching changes & poor direction with poor recruiters which resulted in one of the poorest lists in afl history....

Yet hawks had 2 super drafts in 01 & 04 coupled with stability & resulted in 3 flags possibly 4 in 8 yrs...

Toump...well its lineball for me..

Howe for Redden? Are you ok?

Moore is a dud who from memory didn't make it at the TIges aswell as Port.

Melksham i'm disgusted we have gone for...fringe player at best.

Kennedy who? Another Pie dud...

Agree Hawks did have some successful drafts but also some misses.

Hawks have been very effective at attracting players from other clubs...

Burgoyne

Hale

Gibson

Lake

McEvoy

Gunston

all in their 22 on Saturday

Agree Hawks have had early failed picks.... But not as many as the MFC ... The above drafting/free agents along with below & the rest is history...

The quality of their field kicking is so dominant & when u hit targets it results in less turnovers... Some of the kicking skills from our players have been deplorable...

2001

Luke Hodge (1) — 250 games, 3 x All-Australian, 2 x best and fairest, 3 x premierships, 2 x Norm Smith Medal

Rick Ladson (16) — 125 games, 1 x premiership

Campbell Brown (32) — 159 games, 1 x All-Australian, 1 x premiership

Sam Mitchell (36) — 261 games, 2 x All-Australian, 4 x best and fairest, 3 x premierships

2004

Jarryd Roughead (2) — 207 games, 441 goals, 2 x All-Australian, 1 x Coleman Medal, 3 x premierships

Lance Franklin (5) — 182 games, 580 goals, 5 x All-Australian, 3 x Coleman Medal, 2 x premierships

Jordan Lewis (7) — 217 games, 1 x All-Australian, 1 x best and fairest, 3 x premierships

God there are some rude plicks on this forum.

Opinions are allowed whether right, wrong or indifferent.

I thought that's what this forum was about.

Hate to c how we would treat each other if we followed different teams!

I would think that Toumpas would get you 30 and Moore.

30 would get you Kennedy with a lower pick back and possibly 46 would do the trick with a lower pick back to use on Lovett.

I would do Howe for Redden if we could.

Melksham for pick 26 with a lower pick back.

Then the big fish deal to be done.

That's my opinion.

That I'm sick of seeing your incredibly stupid trade propositions littered throughout this forum.

Put some thought into it, or shut up.

The worst thing one could ever do is post their trade scenarios.

It's a lose lose scenario.

I don't know why people do it. 95% of the time they are horribly lopsided in our favour, as if another club will happily take a rubbish pick or one of our deadwood players and give us something good in return.

But you can't tell them that. It's their opinion and their trade scenarios and if we can't come up with some just as ridiculous then we need to be quiet. Laughable.

Posted

I think everyone should calm down. There's better things to worry about then someone's trade opinions. Just on the A.Moore situation. Would we be better off going for A.Young? He would increase our midfield depth and he's got some good speed that we need. By memory, he's out of contract.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this. It was reported on channel 7 news that we are looking to trade Chris Dawes & that Toumpas has requested a trade back to SA.

Our footy department have their work cut out for them to get some kind of return on pick 4 for Toumpas.

As it stands right now, that pick goes down as one of the worst since 2007 for so many reasons. If we can something inside pick 20 we'll be doing ok.

Good news all round there Bonkers.

The bad bit is I doubt there will be any takers for either.

With the impending arrival in PA of Dixon I find it hard to believe that we would get anything decent in return for Toumpas. They will potentially be trading their first rounder for this year and next year which makes it difficult for them to give us something of value for Toumpas. Do they have any players who are decent but have lacked a few opportunities? I don't like the sound of it really.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
