2015 Player Review - # 5 Jimmy Toumpas

But who or what will we get in return? Can't think of a fringe player at Port who would be best 22 at Melbourne. And no, we won't get Hartlett.

Not sure, I doubt Port would give us their second round pick.

I keep reading that Toumpas should be given more time or he's worth more to us than we will receive back in any trade that takes place.

We got McCartney to the club for a reason. It would seem Roos has had doubts on Toumpas since taking over and made him McCartneys project for the year. Other clubs aren't stupid, we've got a well respected coaching panel and we're throwing out a pick 3 after two years.

We got it wrong, we take whatever we can get and move on, we've all seen the results of what clinging on gets us.

That is the way it looks from the outside i agree...

clearly has talent, but doesn't look like an afl level player.

panics with the ball in possession which leads to making a litany of errors, lacks defensive intensity, looks to have zero pace whatsoever, and looks like a massive fail as a top pick, which is particularly galling as the immediate three players selected after him look set to go on to be genuine stars.

Agree. Another wasted pick. MFC has been expert in picking the wrong ones for at least 10 years. Hopefully this has now changed.

I can't get behind HS's paywall but this is the intro: 'MELBOURNE’S wretched run with top draft picks is set to continue, with Jimmy Toumpas being chased by a trade-hungry Port Adelaide'.

Power have shown they are fair traders and play the trade game with goodwill so if Power are doing the chasing we may get a good value trade.

Some players need continuity, he has had none. Another fail by the MFC.

If he is used to catch a bigger fish then so be it. Not sure Port have draft picks to offer with Dixon going there.

Don't trade for another Michie, Newton, Lumumba, Riley. Better to get another Vandenberg from somewhere I reckon.

Is anyone able to get through that stupid HS block for the article 'Power move for Demon wingman'?

Would mostly be speculation, but a good read none-the-less

MELBOURNE is set to part ways with another top draft pick, with young wingman Jimmy Toumpas being chased by Port Adelaide

The Power have made inquiries about securing the man taken by the Demons with the No. 4 pick three years ago.

Toumpas, who is from South Australia, has averaged 13 possessions in his 27 AFL games, coming off major hip surgery in 2012.

A former star at under-18 level, Toumpas was hopeful of re-signing a two-year deal at Melbourne late in the season but is now expected to make the move home to Adelaide in next months trade period in a bid to kickstart his flagging career.

Port is also set to secure Gold Coast power forward Charlie Dixon in exchange for a first and possibly second-round draft pick to the Suns.

Port's move on Dixon and Toumpas is part of a bold trade ploy designed to help catapult Ken Hinkley's men back into the top four after missing finals this year.

Melbourne may only receive a second-round draft pick in return for Toumpas, continuing the clubs wretched run of draft busts.

But Port could also yet lose utility Aaron Young to St Kilda, in what could form part of a three-way deal involving Toumpas and the Dees.

Young, 22, is contracted at Port next season but is open to a move. St Kilda coach Alan Richardson is believed to have a high opinion of Young, dating back to his time at Alberton as senior assistant coach to Hinkley.

But Young has often been used as the sub and is eager for more senior opportunities. He has averaged 10 possessions in 42 games over the past four seasons.

Port has targeted Toumpas to help add to its outside midfield stocks, after reviving the career of ex-Brisbane Lion Jared Polec (a No. 5 choice) in similar fashion two years ago.

The lack of outside run was a key reason for Ports surprise demise this season when wingmen Polec and Matthew White were sidelined with injuries.

Demon high-flyer Jeremy Howe remains unsigned and could be headed to Gold Coast or Fremantle if the club does not pay him $450,000-$500,000 a season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Port loiters around the top 4 next year. But it will have nothing to do with Toumpas. They are already a very talented side, one of the few that can trouble Hawthorn.

Take the pick.

So...if a 3 way then we'd presumably get the Aints 2nd rounder.

Well i suppose its a bit of spending money at the circus.

Probably a win all round.

Theyve made it harder to get past definitely.

I dont think it will bite us. We simply need better value out of someone than Jimmy currently presents

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
