Soiling a dream

Newspapers as we know them are dying a slow death. The way the Melbourne Age is looking these days whenever I pick it up in a local cafe, it is one of those for which the last rites are pending in the near future.

I hope that doesn't prevent us from getting access to pieces like this, written by a gifted footballer who suffered some bad injuries and became a gifted writer ~ Soiling a dream

Just read the article this morning WJ. Great piece.

Without trying to hijack the thread, I note that the Age has become little more than a refuge for your 'right on daddyo' Will Anderson types (I'd exclude some of the sports writing) and an underlying premise that there's no fish and chips worth eating unless they're within a 10 km radius of the CBD. 'Random' interviews in respect to any issue appear to invariably involve social content managers from Fitzroy or food bloggers and lifestyle coaches from Kew. In short, it's become an almighty wankfest.

You're absolutely right RTG.

The Age has become like a demented Cleo.

The Daily Life section has obnoxious articles that discuss body parts, often suggesting surgery, then next day telling them to not have surgery.

Was Will Anderson ever funny?

Just because you shout your punchlines doesn't make them so.

Articles painting any anti-muslim sentiment as immediately racist, though Africa and the Middle East are at war with ISIS. As are Australia.

Articles on food suggesting fat free muesli then next to it a special calorific recipe.

I can't take it anymore.

Nice to read one on a guy shyteing his daks in front of a finals crowd, as the Age itself does daily.

You put it far more succinctly than I ever could Biffen. Whatever happened to it?

That people think Tim Boyle is a gifted writer says it.

[censored] footballer, [censored] writer who can really only tell half finished stories about his own sad career.

That the Age thinks to publish a story of him [censored] his pants says a lot about where they are at.

Before illness, and perhaps for a good part after, Brent Croswell used to write some great stuff imo.

Yes he always seems to write how useless and inept his unknown career was..

Who cares?

I'll agree that he probably needs to move beyond it. Still, did you know Chrissie Swan is also a mum with a hectic schedule? Apparently so.

The Age has got NOTHING on The Guardian.

Some of its headline are worthy of The Onion.

RTG I would reply in detail but I am too busy tonight writing a comment piece for Epicure on the dearth of good fish and chip shops in the inner north, thanks very much!

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
