I am sick of all the fluffed handballs, handballs into players backs, handballs behind players, air shot handballs, dribbled handballs, handballs straight to opposition players and handballs to players surrounded by opposition players.

We need someone like Sam to teach our list what a real handball looks like.

It is an indictment on the current coaches that so many of our players can't or won't improve their handball skills.

We get killed by the resulting turnover goals every week.

Most frustrating is that we bleed goals mostly through either lack of effort, or just poor turnovers under minimal pressure. Dropped uncontested marks, fluffed handballs in the back half, hospital handpasses, poor kicks to players under pressure.

When on, we're very good, but when off, as Roos notes, our worst is still as bad as it's ever been. That gap suggests it's in the mind, just a lack of awareness and a breakdown of team fundamentals and dynamics.

I loved Big Maxy's 30 m handball to Viney on the weekend!

Was sweet.

Hand balling a footy is one thing, positioning from the bloke wanting it and timing from the bloke delivering it is an entirely different thing.

Guess where we fail?

Didn't you guys see Viney on the weekend. If you remember at the start of the year hardly any of his possessions ended in a Melbourne players hands, he has come a long way.

I'd suggest he's actually ahead of Sam Mitchell at the same stage of his career and every chance of becoming a better player by the end of it, hopefully just as decorated.

Its all very well to be critical especially when we play like we did against Carlton and Essendon but give some credit to the coaches, I reckon they would be tickled pink with Viney's game on the weekend.

This is just one of those negative threads that goes nowhere.

Stuff Sam Mitchell, I wouldn't trade Viney for him even if he came with a first round draft pick.

Some people go looking for gold when they have it lying around in their own back yard!

He throws most of them and never gets pinged.

Deadsh.t with no personality or apparent brain.

Would rather get Yze back.

Also think Viney is ahead of Chunk Jones at this stage of his career in terms of disposal.

Viney is a diamond in the rough.

Jones was a much more penetrating kick than Viney is and Jone's problem was always trying to do too much. Viney can spray a kick when he is under no pressure. I see more of a similarity with Tyson getting caught all the time and a young Jones except Tyson is ahead of where Jones was at the same age / games. Viney reminds me of a young Todd Viney except a much more reliable kick :)

If we are looking to,add to our coaching panel, our first priority should be locking in Crossy as a playing development coach at Casey ( a la Shannon Byrnes)!

Being a teacher is a skill on its own. Just because a player has the ability to execute a particular skill well, doesn't necessarily mean they'll be able to teach others how to do it.

Yep. Sam Mitchell is an instinctive 2 sided footballer with ridiculous awareness and balance. Can't teach that.

Agreed. Corky's aren't that simple.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
