Apparently was mentioned on 7 news that Mayes is unhappy at the Lions and could walk at years end. Came from the Toumpas draft and he was one i was really keen on at the time along with few others.

189cm wingman outside midfielder who has silky skills and pushes forward to kick goals. Would easily give up a 2nd rounder for him.

Thoughts.

Highly rated as a youngster but I must admit I haven't paid much attention to his career so far. Stats according to footywire aren't too bad for a developing player, could be worth a punt for a later pick if the Lions will entertain it.

At the moment it's pretty much:

(Insert Name) is not happy at the Lions and is requesting a trade.

I kind of feel sorry for them.

Looked really good in his first season, he'd be one you'd hope would improve when in a settled environment like Polec did at Port. I think Brisbane really need to stop drafting South Australians.

I dont think he would have had a good season if he was in our team this year, unless our game plan changes dramatically next year, he should look otherwise.

The same petulance that Neeld had to contend with.

Stick fat, Leppa.

Is it petulance though? These problems are never a one way street. You could understand a few, but it seems that the number of players wanting out of the club grows by the day. That can't just be put down to 'petulance'.

Mayes was good in his first couple of years, dropped off with injury (and whatever's been going on behind the scenes at Brisbane).

To add to Dazzle's OP, Mayes is a lovely kick and has good composure. Traits we could use.

As a junior he was a slightly undersized hit up forward, who started to go through midfield in his top age year, so he's pretty good overhead too.

Another I'd be happy to pick up.

One of the few who were taken after ToumpAs that I was happy we didn't get. Stringer, McRae,Wines, Vlastuin yes. Mayes no

I forgot he was even in the Afl. I remember the predraft hype but haven't heard much about him since.

Worth a look if cheap.

Everyone has to pull together to achieve success.

I remember Leigh Matthews saying that everything must go right for a club to win a flag.

Culture. Critical mass.

You can't allow a Martin, or a Moloney, or a Pettard, or a Rivers rule the direction of the goal.

Anyway, it's their problem - Mayes is ordinary.

I've seen light....Brayshaw, Viney, Hogan, Tommy, Salem, Kent and the impending unveiling of Petracca....I can't accept spuds...I won't.

OK so far, we can't recruit him because 1) Jumbo says he's a spud - thanks for the insight!

And, saving the best for last:

2) Fence logic says we can't because he's South Australian, sooo, he must be a spud

Thank god we've got that sorted out

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
