Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A player can/will never perform consistently on-field if his off-field life is a train-wreck.

There are a number of players who make that statement not true.

Ablett snr for a start, Ox was another, there are quite a few other not so squeaky cleans that I won't name..as much as the recruiters and clubs tell us about all these outstanding young men, citizens etc...many are outstanding players but far from outstanding citizens...

If MFC isnt doing everything they can to get him down here id be very disappointed.

He is EXACTLY what we need on field. Viney in and under, passing to Bennell who dashes through the wing and laces out to the Hulk.

Yes please.

Off field can be taken care of.

Do what needs to be done.

Soft source confirmed that we've done the considerations and are likely to make a play for him depending on other player movements.

Edit: Not even mad - he's a gun, I think we could control most of his [censored] given the behaviour and commitment of the rest of the playing group. Plus, crossy as a development coach wouldn't hurt :D

I doubt he'd want to come to the MFC, but who knows.

That said, forget second or third round picks, the club the gets him will have to do a lot better than that. Notwithstanding the issues surrounding him (which I don't believe are hugely serious - just gut feel) he's an elite talent.

Those quick to dismiss him would be well advised to remember a young enigmatic player who had a string of discipline issues in his early days. Was very nearly traded but managed to stayed at the club. Went on to win 3 flags and a Norm Smith.

I'm not saying there is no risk, of course there is, but the reward could be huge for a player of that talent.

May not have a choice.

I still think we're ahead of Essendon too.

Here's the thing as far as I'm thinking.

Bennell's contracted for 2 more years.

He can't be traded to a club without his permission. Gold Coast can't send him to the PSD as he's not out of contract. If they out right sack him then surely he'd become a free agent I would've thought. If they don't agree to a trade then they'd have to either sack him or keep him which would be a huge embarrassment to them.

The point is the club (or clubs) that Bennell nominates to be traded to has a lot of leverage. Especially if he is steadfast in his desire to just get to one club. So whilst the easiest thing to do would be to pay fair value for him to complete the trade and satisfy Bennell and the Suns there isn't any need to get in a bidding war.

Our best chance for this to be a success would be to convince Harley that our team, facilities, playing group, leadership etc is the right group for him and then only satisfy Gold Coast with the minimum value that gets the deal done without fuss.

ox said on SEN that Todd Viney would be very good for ensuring he stays on the right path.

Does Ox know Todd is the list manager not captain now?

In all seriousness though Mark Williams has apparently been huge for keeping Dustin Martin in line. A type of father figure who knows that young guys will get up to trouble but tries to make sure it's not crossing the line.

If we were to get Harley I think we'd need someone to fill that father figure type role. His old man is in jail after all. Maybe that's unfair on him but I think it's true.

We'd then probably need players willing to keep track of him when he's out and about and make sure if he goes out for a good time that it's the responsible sort of good time. That's where Karmichael went wrong with Harley. Apparently he made sure he trained and prepared for games like a professional but then he partied like a semi-professional.

No thanks

We have been burnt with others, Jurrah clark . I told a geelong supporter that Clark was high risk and it proved to be unfortunately

Bennel has non footballer issues that we may not be fully aware of. The list is hard enough to carry injured players . we dont need a potential non starter.

Except then you make trading with the Gold Coast very difficult if you wanted to trade for anyone else.

umm, yes, that's what Ox meant: Todd Viney.

I dare say Todd plays a far larger (unofficial) role at the club than list manager.

I think that's really up to them. Offering up what is fair value factoring in the off field issues and there desire to be rid of him is the way to go. Talk of 1st round picks are unreasonable. The Hawks have always paid up for players they want but never have they paid overs out of desperation. Each deal and year is a new deal and you start again. Obviously if Howe wants to go to the Gold Coast that complicates things and I'm not suggesting we turn in to Essendon who thinks every one of their players is worth 3 first rounders. We just have to put the focus on getting Bennell to choose us not offering up a big deal for a trouble player. We've done that too often.

What world did you grow up in?

Some of the best people I've met in this world, I have seen do the same.

I've seen doctors, lawyers, architects... I've seen other high profile players that you probably wouldn't believe.

A few years back I happily partook.

It didn't and doesn't define who I am, or who I will be.

Much the same with Harley, although he is in desperate need of some better role models in his life.

Does explain more than a couple of your posts though.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
