An article discussing recruits from other clubs with Higgins, Crisp and Garlett nominated as the top 3. It seems to be a foxtel thing so not sure how 'official' it is. Nonetheless, it is great for Jeff to be recognised for his efforts and he certainly seems to be enjoying his football and the club. He is on track to kick a career high number of goals.

Along with Jesse and his Rising Star performance and Bernie in AA form it is really good to have our players recognised as being at the higher performance end of the comp.

Always a lot of talk from Roos and some on here about players 'playing their role'. Well the reality is we needed someone playing the role of gun key forward and a few gun midfielders. But besides those things we desperately needed a crumbing forward and whilst Jeffy has his moments of madness (see the dropped chest mark) he's also played his role and more so far.

He frustrates the hell out of me with the simple errors he makes, but then I remember we got him for a 5th round pick and he's kicked 33 goals for a side that isn't renowned for kicking many. He hasn't kicked a big bag to skew the stats so he's fairly consistent too. Excellent recruit.

He's had some erros, missed chances he should've taken and failed in a few 50/50s. He's not in the range of Betts or LeCras, BUT

He has added an element of danger to our forward line that we haven't had for some years. Now, if an opposition defence screws up, there's a real chance they'll be punished. That affects the whole way a team plays.

On track for his best year of AFL and hopefully this is the groundwork for another 5+ good years in the role.

Considering what we gave up for him (basically nothing), he's a super bargain. Really happy with Garlett.

Came to the club with a few 40ish seasons. Cost us tiddly-winks. We've been crying out for a decent pocket for years now. Jeff will eclipse all expectations. One of the very last on the list we should be upset with for an ineffective game. Suprisingly young still and will hopefully cause us occasional angst you years to come.

Possibly the best way to judge the value of transferred players is how much the supporters of the old team bemoan that player's loss. From what I can tell, Carlton supporters appear devastated at losing Garlett (as well as Betts, although not so much Waite).

Loved that we got him from the start. His round the body kicking under pressure is fantastic. His set-shot drop punt kicking is so shakey, maybe he'd almost be better to play on & kick round the body every time! [Either that or practice his set shot kicking like crazy.]

Apart from his goal kicking, Jeff is a tenacious chaser and tackler. Love the way he pursues an opponent even from a long way back. He often forces hurried disposal from his opponent. Also seems to be really enjoying the MFC and his new teammates. One of the first to congratulate a mate who has just booted a goal. He looks like he is a good clubman as well.

His set-shot goalkicking has been the only thing that I've been frustrated with really (apart from the dropped chest mark on the weekend!). He's actually a beautiful kick so I've been surprised at how often he's missed straightforward kicks from 20-30m out. I can recall at least 5....you're always going to miss one or two but this is something he has to get better at. Unfortunately, the nature of the position is that you're always going to be in and out of the play a bit so he's going to have his quiet patches. Therefore, nailing those straightforward opportunities becomes even more important.

He's been a great recruit for us though - given us pace, forward line pressure, and excitement around the ball, three things we've been sadly lacking in recent years.

Higgins undoubtedly recruit of the year for mine though. What a game he played on the weekend.

Hes fantastic. When hes near the ball anything can happen. He causes panic amongst the opposition backs, can be switched into the centre and all in all its exactly what we needed. Wiz Garlett!

I think the MFC has been great for Garlett. He needed a fresh start and this was the perfect scenario for both club and player.

Can see Jeffy playing 100 games in red and blue.
