Steven Motlop

Out of contract, quick, goal kicking mid, would complement our mids nicely. Geelong are looking to spend money on imports and we owe them one for Rivers, Clark and trying to take Frawley.

2.4 over 4 years get it done?

Thoughts on this?

RFA?

We certainly need more goal kicking options, outside speed and general class. Motlop fits the bill. If Howe can get 600K elsewhere, I'd use that kind of cash to get Motlop who offers more.

I reckon that 90% of free agents or out of contract required players have made a decision as to which club they'll be at next year. Opposition clubs court them 12 months in advance, as we've done with Hannaberry and Prestia. And players tend to get to their preferred club.

If we weren't in the hunt for Motlop at least 6 months ago, I doubt that we're a chance of getting him.

PS: Mitch Clark is the exception.

Motlop a goal kicking mid???

He has staked his claim up forward but rarely a mid.

If we are in the market for a real mid then Motlop isn't it IMO

Motlop has played as a an outside mid all year, and had a really good season.

Forget about it.

If he leaves Geelong, the only place he'll go is Adelaide.

They want him, have offered a load of $ and he is open to it.

He's leaning toward staying though.

On top of that, I'm not really sure he's what we're looking for, or should be.

That's rubbish, he averages 22 touches a game this year and generally plays as an outside mid or wing and rests forward. Freak of a player at his best, absolute magic.

We need a guy who can burst with speed out of the middle after a center bounce.

If we can't get Dangerfield this guy would be my next option.

The only player I have seen do that this year is Garlett and he doesn't go into the center very often.

Tonight against the swans had 32 disposals and a goal.....didn't actually watch his game but just saying....

He's top of the wishlist for me. Others have said Bennell, and TBH I'd like both, but I think if we get Bennell we don't have any chance of getting Prestia - ever.

Speed and skills is what we need, and he has both sorted with some x factor as well. I'm hoping Roosy and co have the kitchen sink unbolted and ready to throw.

Yeh he is like a polished version of any outside mid we have at the minute, gathers haps of ball and has class....add to that he comes from Geelong, which means he brings a lot to the table in terms of leadership to our list.

If the rumours are true and the Cats do get Adam Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield neither will be cheap so the MFC must surely throw big money $$ and a long contract at Motlop and try pry him loose

The thing that immediately comes to mind is that you should never simply chase a footballer because you "owe" the club he plays for. Years ago Collingwood and Richmond were at loggerheads for years after the Tigers poached Phil Walsh away from them after one season. The Pies swore to get revenge and, as a result, made some bad recruiting blunders that were very costly to the club and sent them backward both financially and on the field.

The question should be whether Motlop is a player who fits our needs, whether we can afford him and whether he can fit into our club in a way that improves our overall team performance and, in my humble opinion, the answer to all of those questions is an emphatic yes.

No doubt there are a few clubs thinking the same way.

A big NO for me. It wasn't just the Colac incident, but more so a failure to take responsibility for his actions.

Not the type of guy I'd want on our list. We've had enough of those over the years.

"The team and Steve will pay a big penalty this week, but having said that we're really happy with the way Steve responded in the aftermath and we are really positive that this is going to have a good outcome for the whole club and importantly for Steve," Scott said.

"We have clear expectations of our players and there is no grey area here.

"Steve has not been able to meet those on this occasion and to his credit he acknowledges it and he admits and he is prepared to take his right whack."

No, I don't know anything that others don't. That is just my opinion. I'm not keen on Motlop, I understand he is a gun, I just see Colac as a red flag. It's as much of a knock on Motlop, as it is a knock on the expectations of footballers in the current climate. It is unrealistic, but those are the expectations that have to be met. I don't know if Motlop can continue to meet these expectations consistently.

Can you explain your reasoning here Fire?

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
