Final teams have been announced.

Thanks Clint. In that case (unless there is an injury involved) I fully agree Wiseblood below.

Normally I can see where Roos is coming from with his team selections, but dropping Grimes and keeping M. Jones completely baffles me. Ridiculous stuff.

And they must be the most incriminating photos of all time for him to keep his spot.

For the life of me I do not see his value to the team.

So that means Grimes is the emergency or he is injured?

I am not a big fan but I reckon he is hardly done by this weekend.

Yeah I think they are moving Howe back to the backline again (which I think is a correct move) and therefore the 6 starting defenders will probably be Dunn, Fitzy, Jetta, Howe, McDonald and Garland. I can understand Grimes getting squeezed out, although both Howe and Fitzy are equally lucky.

I'm not sure who will be the sub. Could be Newton, Riley or Matt Jones if I had to guess but wouldn't rule out Toump or Watts. Either way all are likely better options than Grimes as sub.

I guess the challenge for Grimes is to make sure he's undroppable when he next gets a chance as he's likley to get another go.

Tyson and Neal-Bullen have put the pressure on the likes of Newton, Riley and Matt Jones to play well. They'll know they have to do well to stay in the side.

I don't understand the logic above - Collingwood beat up bottom 8 teams like us and get found out by talented sides - that doesn't auger well for the weekend.

The logic is simple, we're a chance.

Really feel for Grimes, I think he's disposal has improved a lot this year, something he has received little credit for here.

As with others, baffled that Matt Jones can get a game ahead of him.

As for Watts, would just love for him to lay a full blown tackle, not the weak arm tackles he has been doing.

Match committee are starting to really lose me with team selections

The best few weeks grimes has had for a looong time and he gets dropped yet m jones and Howe hold their spots

M Jones ahead of Grimes?

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

M Jones been playing as a defensive fwd, he has beat his man the lat 2 weeks, played his part in the team and followed instruction.

Grimes got hammered by his immediate opponent all day last week

Open your eyes and have a proper look!

I've been critical of him on here on no more than a handful of occasions throughout his career jumbo, including the post above.

It'd be nice to be able to do so without being accused of Watts bashing every time.

Fair enough.

Duly noted, but I don't have to agree with the nit picking, either GV.

For the life of me i have no idea why they persist with Howe, even as a back-man, over Grimes.

At least Grimes gets involved in the contest, whereas Howe does SFA except for his cameo hanger.

Agree with above sentiments, unless the coaching group are giving a couple their potential last rites as MFC players, some of the decisions are pretty poor.

Ok fine.

Grimes should be in ahead of both Watts and Howe.

It can't be anyone named in the 18 so it's not Newton or Riley.

The choice is from: Watts, Toumpas, Brayshaw & M. Jones.

What annoys me most is that guys like Watts and Howe aren't punished for poor performances but Grimes isn't rewarded for good form.

It's seriously baffling.

As for Matt Jones, he's in the team for that small defensive forward role. Fair to say we are all waiting the return of JHK and Kent with baited breath!

I can understand Watts ahead of Grimes. Howe will play Grimes role which is the frustration for me. Matt Jones does offer pace, a defensive role and some flexibility but that is all.

One thing we can rely upon from Matt Jones is that he will manage to somehow trip, tackle high and push in the back an opponent all at the same time.

And just at a point where we might be starting to gain some momentum in the game too. He falls in someone's back and they kick a goal against the run of play. I've never seen someone do it as well as him.

I'm not a big Grimes fan but very tough to drop him when he's finally back in a bit of form, especially if Howe is gonna play in that role in his stead. It's hard to see what Roos is trying to achieve at the moment

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
