Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm becoming very concerned by the growing chorus of football industry people saying that Hoges is certain to return home to WA.

Langdon and Hardie, I know, are Western Australians and might be being parochial, but on the other hand they are based in WA and maybe they do have some inside info.

Crackers Keenan recently wrote that not only is he certain to go home, it is likely to be at the end of this year (despite his contract).

It might be correct that the opinions/whispers of these characters should be dismissed, but obviously, the more you hear it the more you worry.

These comments were made weeks ago and nothing since, certainly before freo's demise and Melbournes rise

Langdon, Hardie and Crackers? Don't waste your time fretting over what those nimrods might say.

I think Hogan will need to decide if he wants to win premierships or earn an extra 100-200k a year.

He will definitely be well paid with us but any side that wants to win flags can't pay one player an exorbitant amount in comparison to the rest of the side.

With the state Fremantle are in they'd want to be a bit smarter than to throw $2mil a year at Hogan and McCarthy.

I understand these two would make a potent forward line but they rely heavily on their aging list of midfielders and defenders.

So an ex player comments on the worth of a player and thats how the market is set.

He is worth what he is worth! his worth to another club may be not realistic to his worth for us.

I agree with others that our club now has a group of experienced managers who will know what we can afford and how we can afford it. They will know what we pay others and why, Some of this is dollars and some is altruistic. They will know what a premiership is worth.

Roos is essential as part of the management team as he has the experience of Fitzroy and Sydney to recount..

I dont think there is any doubt he is something special so want him with us but not if it destroys the clubs progress.

By requesting a trade. Whether Melbourne grant the request whilst he is under contract is of course another matter.

But the trading of contracted and highly valued players prior to the expiry of their deals has been done on several occasions - partly to maximise the return.

But in this instance, why would Melbourne grant the request? The club would back itself in the final year of his contract to persuade Hogan to stay. His manager could try to pull a stunt like McCarthy's manager, but look how badly that turned out for everyone.

Even Hogan must realise Fremantle tying up that much of their salary cap on one player is a hideously short-sighted move. We're yet to see how the Buddy deal works out but Fremantle are hardly Sydney and they don't have the Academy protecting their success.

One big question on Fremantle is how big will their rebuild be? The other question is whether Ross Lyon is the man to pull it off. He has walked into two teams who were classified "contenders" but he took St Kilda to the edge and left them needing a rebuild, he's now done the same with Fremantle and they will have to go through their list and decide who will be there for the next window and who won't. Either way you would imagine they will be at least 2-3 years from being in any kind of legitimate bracket of contention, and it could very well be longer.

Point is Jesse has just been through witnessing that at Melbourne, if he does end up choosing Freo he'll have to go through that again but this time as messiah meant to lead them to glory and be on stupid money so therefor have even more expectation and scrutiny. Now obviously he's going to have scrutiny wherever he plays, but there is something about leaving a club that has drafted and developed you to go somewhere else that adds a lot more weight.

We are on the up, but more than that he doesn't appear to be copping the messiah tag as often as before. He had pretty harsh criticism levelled at him earlier in the year but now that he's knuckled down and the team is doing well the criticism has dissipated. We'll be offering him pretty stupid money as well, so he won't have to worry about that, I think he'll have to ask himself what he actually wants out of his career. Money or the chance to be a part of something.

The club is very confident that:

  • Hogan will re-sign to a long term contract this calendar year. Despite reports to the contrary discussions with his manager are on-going and positive.  We got close last summer.
  • Dion Prestia will request a transfer to the Dees at season end.  This means we will probably have to give up player and next years first round but in my mind this is utter gold. Dion is massively underrated on this site.  Do not judge Dion by last weeks performance...... he played injured.

Before we get the numbnuts suggesting that we offer Terlich, Grimes and a set of steak knives for Prestia - has there been any suggestion of who would be offered up or do you have any opinion ?

No disrespect Ethan, but please tell me what I have said that was wrong?

I gave you the scoop on:

  • Roos as coach (round 5, 2013) - completely dismissed by 100% of demonlanders
  • Mitch Clark - not really retiring, not prepared to play for Dees - completely dismissed by 90% of demonlanders
  • Dees in make play for Tyson (was smashed for this one)

To name but a few.

I challenge you prove you 20/80 or shut up.

We have traded picks to trade for a player. We do not intend to take these picks to this years draft.

Pick 3, part of a larger complicated trade. Obviously not going back to GC.

Trades are suggested and many are actively worked on through trade week. 1 in 10 or so turn to reality.  That the trade was not completed does not mean that it was not on the table, and looked likely to be completed. Would you prefer I said nothing?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
