POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 4

What a crock of bull. wet condition and skidding ball. A five goal win in the we IS sinking in the boot.

I was telling him to relax and enjoy the win. Who comes on here after a big win on a Friday night and says their disappointed we didn't win by more? Don't have a go at me, mate!

I was at the game. Sat in the Ponsford Stand - we have some really loud, passionate and humorous fans!!!

Jesse Hogan is the best young player I've ever seen at this club.

And what ever we're paying Paul Roos... it isn't enough. I haven't forgotten how bad we were in 2013. To not only get the side to compete but actually beat opponents and the way we are doing it. Our side is now harder than a cat's head. What a coach.

They had 14 more inside 50's but we had more scoring shots. Great efficiency. Hogan and Garlett should take a lot of credit.

If we ever get a midfield that consistently gives us 14 more inside 50's week in week out, well look out opposition!

Just got home from the game - bloody brilliant. So proud of the boys. I enjoyed the whole experience. Had a cry when Ron held up the flame, sang the national anthem with gusto, screamed my lungs out, watched the Richmond supporters leave in droves and listened to the Richmond supporters ring in to the radio threatening to microwave their memberships on the way home. Great start to the weekend.

The umpiring was terrible but the biggest laugh was listening to Hardwick saying Richmond "could beat anyone". He is in la - la land. We were fantastic - they were pathetic and soft.

Just setting Foxtel to record the game so I can watch it tomorrow. Go Dees ❤️

I know who you'll be thinking about if she consents.

Jesse Hogan- getting people off since 2015

Watching the replay with a bottle of red.

Kent having a great first quarter, a real shame about his injury and by far the only lowlight of a great night.

Jones is over whatever he had going the last two weeks. Superb tonight, one of his best games ever. A mark of a true star, playing well on the big stage and lifting his teammates.

Hogan is amazing, Michie was excellent, Brayshaw was excellent, Salem incredible in the last quarter.

All in all, a wonderful start to the weekend!

So proud of that effort.

We got better as the game went on. We played our best third quarter of the year. We were so much tougher than they were when the rain came (dear lord they were soft as butter) and we used the ball smarter.

McDonald was superb yet again (that's Riewoldt to add to the list, with Cameron and Walker), Salem's really settled into his role, Jones and Tyson were so much better than the last fortnight, and we have Brayshaw, vandenBerg and Hogan to give us genuine hope.

Might be a hellish five weeks coming up (after the Dogs we have Port) but at least we have shown we can do it and if the wins don't come in the next 5 weeks, we know we have a second half of the year full of games that we genuinely can win.

Edit: forgot to mention Michie's performance. Good on you lad. Took the opportunity with both hands and gave us another mid rotation. He could be a surprise additional cog in the midfield wheel.

Watching tonight gave me a sense of satisfaction rather than elation or joyous disbelief.
Tonight, no one could take the win away from us. We were the better team and we did things better for longer.
We also as well have a real touch of mongrel about us. I would suggest that the free kick count in some ways was warranted but it also was a double edged sword. Facts were that we beat them up and it got under their skin. They were rattled and it showed. Try to remember the last time someone ever said that about a Melbourne team!! :)
If we can sneak a win against any of our next three opponents (and frankly, I don't expect us to), then I honestly believe we can aim for the lower reaches of the eight this year. Not going to say it will happen and I don't think it will but a win against any of those three would be as good a sign as any that we are for real.

Everybody contributed - not a single passenger.

VandenBerg BoG. He & Michie were the missing links in the midfield, the whole midfield structure looks better with one of them at the ruckman's feet. It means Jones can focus on what he does best. Brayshaw is AFL quality now, and definitely adds value. Vince is the equal of any midfielder in the game in a run-with one-on-one role.

And I loved the way that when Jetta couldn't go on, Salem & Garland both stood up & took their games to another level. Salem was great in just refusing to let them get it past halfway in the last quarter.

And I've been critical of Jamar, but he was great tonight against a tough opponent in Maric. He really varied his taps & was much less predictable, so it shows that eh can do it. And he gave us more around the ground by getting into the right places a lot more.

And Hogan. What more can you say?

Watching the replay now on Foxtel. Hope we win again.

Not sure if you're familiar with the old British comedy Not The Nine O'Clock News hardtack but they had a sketch where a soccer player kicked a penalty goal, only to have it saved on the replay. Rowan Atkinson et al.

Anyway, can't get the smile off my face. Four quarters of good pressure and intensity, and we didn't drop our heads despite a very sloppy first half.

Kent was playing really well before his injury, and Michie was superb when he came on.

There's a lot to like about this new MFC, but it's hard to look past the sheer awesomeness of Jesse Hogan.

And to the coach, and PJ: Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Go Demons!

Also, I hate Richmond, and we pulled their pants down on a national stage.

So that's good.

I enjoy beating Richmond more than any other team.

Also, I wanted to give a shout out to Dawes. He copped a lot of flak this week, and the majority of it was warranted. But I thought he really lifted tonight. Led by example in the forward line, did his best work when the game was at its hottest (first quarter), and used his body to his advantage.

There's still more he needs to do, but on a night which wasn't great for talls, I thought he did a much better job.

In the past there may have been a false dawn or two, but now I feel we have genuinely turned the corner.

I say that because I have faith in the game plan, the coach, but especially the players....guys like Hogan, McDonald, Brayshaw, Vandenberg...and ready mades like Cross, Vincent ,Lumumba, Garlett and Dawes...we are finally building some real quality.

What a crock of [censored]

Bloody star!

He is in the top 15 mids in the comp, I dare anyone to find someone who has played so consistently well in such a bloody awful team for as long as he has.

He is a genuine A grader!

Great to see my boy McDonald giving that absolute f'wit Reiwoldt a bath. I can't stand that sook!

Loved it when Riewoldt went down like a starfish near the Melbourne cheersquad. He copped a massive earbashing.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
