I was there at the G when Joe Solomon's cap knocked the bails off and 70000 people booed when Richie appealed.

Rest in peace Richie. Thanks for the memories.

PS. It's ' Benaud '

Think he attended more test matches than any other person?

Bill Lawry told us that as a younger player he nailed Richies shoe to the floor of the changerooms one day and when Richie tried to slip the foot into the shoe and realised what had been done,he roared with laughter and took the joke as a skipper should.

Yep,to bad we dont have a leg spinning gentleman around to replace the great man.

An on air tribute a few weeks back had a couple of funny stories. Apparently Mark Taylor exclaimed on air it was a tragedy when Shane Warne was dismissed on 99. The next day Richie politely informed Mark that "The Titanic was a tragedy. The millions of starving people in the world was a tragedy. Shane Warne being dismissed on 99 was NOT a tragedy"!!

And, when Ian Healy commented on air that "the pitch was moving sideways", Richie corrected him with words to the effect of "Young man, the pitch will NEVER move sideways!"

A great man, a fantastic cricketer, a wonderful commentator. Australia is the poorer for his passing!

Vale Richie!

So sad to hear the news today. A true gentleman. I never got tired of listening to him on the TV. RIP Ritchie - you will greatly missed.

A true national treasure.

Another one of our sporting greats no longer with us. Cricket will never be the same without Ritchie. RIP Mate.

I love this classic from the great man - Captaincy is 90% luck and 10% skill. But don't try it without that 10%

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
