Not even round 2 and 'rumours' are already starting, Aish to Melb, Yarran to Melb, Danger to Cats, Rance to Dockers, etc...

In saying that, I'd love for us to make a play for Shiel and Treloar, throw Hawkins in too.

We'll make a play for more GWS midfielders long before we throw over $1M at Dangerfield.

Can't think of a more irresponsible use of our salary cap. For a few hundred thousand extra, you could probably land two far younger mids with as much potential.

Yes we have been here before, long before others, and it never really worked. Think Tilbrook, Peter Moore, Kelvin Templeton, even Mitch Clark - all guns for hire with no real commitment to the club. The ones I can think that worked well: Guy Rigoni, Brian Wilson, Clinton Bizzel were more in the mode of modern day trades, and not the mega-buck deals.

We should learn our lesson and we seem to be under Roos. We are using our draft picks sensibly to fill weakness and keeping the young gun high draft picks to grow into A graders. Where we trade free agency eg Rivers, Frawly, Clark, Sylvia ( by the way I think all of those examples we could afford to lose because they were either past their prime, we had adequate replacements, or we were going to be so well compensated that we were better off anyway),we use the compensation to fill gaps or make further trades. Over time this will build into a very strong team.

Peter Moore did ok. Four seasons, 77 games including a Charlie.

With all due respect Dees2140, but I really dislike the term 'gun for hire'. They are just players trying to make the most out of their short AFL career. I'd love Danger for 5 yrs at $1mill pa because in a couple of years of SC increases $1mill will not seem unreasonable for an A grade out and out star. That goal he kicked on the weekend was freakin amazing! I'll trust Team Roos to make the right call on that though.

Some might argue that Lumumba on $600k pa is a gun for hire (urghh...) given that he's one of our highest paid players. Not me though.

He is not on a million a year though. All I am saying is there are no magic bullets which we have tried in the past. I very much agree with the path we are on now. When we get to what some call "the window" , if we need to pay that to get to the ultimate prize then so be it. I just do not that is the way to go now, or even next year.

Who would be the most recent marquee signing who's new club has then won the flag?

Franklin to Swans - not yet

Ablett to Suns - seems less likely after this week.

Judd to Blues - no (hahaha)

... to ... - ?

R Barassi to Blues - Bingo!

Think he bought a house up there not too long ago, plus with Boyd leaving and Patton injured he's got a decent amount of job security in the foward/ruck role. Probably a good spot for him to stay as that midfield keeps improving.

I think our depth is really deep, making a call will win between 9 to 12 games. i heard the pre match Geelong said they are a better team this year then last, i wonder if they still think that, lest wait until the end of next round, hawthorn will beat bombers by 80+, freeo to beat geelong, if freeo win then that is the start of the cats end. We must beat giants, hopefully dawes has one of thoses games, kick 2 to 3 goals and hurt a few kids with his big tackles, the few older guys in our team must belt a few kid, within the rules hard bone jarring tackles.

all 3 of them have been/are massive assets for their respective clubs though

I don't know whether Peter Moore had no club commitment. He did win the Brownlow in 1984 playing for Melbourne. Must have done something right I reckon.

I'm pretty certain he has recently signed so he is off the market.

He's on that much is he? Wow I've been wondering why he chose us and that is a fair enough reason.

When thinking about recruiting high priced players there is 1 bloke that we have to consider and that's the bloke that wears No 1 at Melbourne.

If teams are willing to pay 1 Mil a year for a player that is useless at ground level what are they going to pay a key forward that has it all when he comes out of contract?

Can we afford Hogan and another high priced recruit and not lose any key players?

As it stands, our first pick in the draft isn't until pick 15, so we're going to need some steak knives to get most of those deals across the line.

Hopefully, but not likely to remain that pick. Maybe pick 6 or 7 with reasonable steak knives. Some have mentioned Howe. Much water to go under the bridge yet though.

all we know is that Roos has absolutely crushed it the last 2 trade/draft periods so I expect him to strike again

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
