AFL - Round 1 (non MFC games)

The Lions are having one of our start to the year, in years gone past of course - 'good' new recruits and a thorough deflation of hope and life itself.

Thank eff it's someone other than us for once.

Geez some peculiar matches tonight. Thought Brisbane were going to kill it this year, Collingwood would be pathetic and Bulldogs would threaten Saints for the spoon.

Wrong on all counts.

Luke Beveridge is proving that former Melbourne players make the best coaches. The Dogs are electrifying to watch and are running and making as good decisions like a top 8 side. The Eagles are letting them and they don't have the talls or probably the midfield grunt, but they are doing beautifully.

Jesse Hogan only 2 goals? Patton is a gun but injuries have wrecked him for now. Boyd is a man mountain who will struggle for a while but end up dominant. We didn't have to choose between the two and at 1 mil per year we weren't ever in the market for Boyd! I'm just thankful we have our man. Let the Dogs enjoy Boyd and Stringer, we can do well with Hogan, Watts, Vandenberg and co.

I'm jealous about Bont! But even if they weren't at their best yesterday I'm still pretty happy with Tyson and Salem!

Looking forward to the GWS v Saints game today. Hope it's tough and hard with plenty of physical clashes so the Giants have trouble recovering over their six day break.

Hopefully Scully gets through.

Dont want him to miss next weeks game and the chance to meet Vanders, Viney, Angus and Hogan up close and personal.

Without coming across as condescending (video of kids), I remember seeing this upon Roos' arrival and thinking geez I hope he can teach us to do that. I certainly saw the spread yesterday and it was a delight to watch.

Edited by ignition.

I went and watched the doggies game with one of their supporters after our win. It was a really entertaining, open game. Neither side had great defence so the ball was going coast to coast a hell of a lot. Bont was actually really quiet, especially in the first half where he only had 4 touches. Boyd looks a year or so behind Hogan, but he took a really nice contested mark for his one goal. He looks like he'll be a real handful one on one. I think they need to bring in one more big forward to make it all work. Stringer needs to be the third tall down there and neither Redpath nor Crameri are good enough to warrant the better defenders.

On Stringer, I would think all those bemoaning the choice of Toumpas would mention him more often. The guy is an absolute gun.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
