Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Averaging high levels of disposals doesn't make you an A grader.  It's how you use them and the impact that they have on games.

I'd love to change my tune on him if he came to the club and built on his talent and skills, but right at this minute he is not an A grade player.

I understand that, but consistent clearance winners are A grade in my book. Particularly when they're simply not up and under kicks like Bernie and Jones seem to do.

Treloar hasn't had an A-grade year, but he's unquestionably a very talented young A-grader in the making.  He doesn't work hard enough defensively, but is a ball magnet, who reads the play very well and kicks goals from the midfield.  While numbers of possessions in themselves don't define a player it's a handy skillset to get your hands on the footy.  Lord knows we've lacked ball magnets over the years.

I prefer Treloar as a talent.  He averages more disposals and has kicked double the amount of goals from virtually the same number of games.  I value goal-kicking mids and think Treloar will continue to increase this metric.

I dispute Prestia is a better kick.

Fair enough.

I think Prestia has been close to A grade in the past, but I'm just not convinced he can get back there.

I'd want him if the price is right, but I don't know what GC are asking, nor what others are offering.
That will make a big difference.

Was catching up with his manager in Melbourne yesterday. Feeling in the industry is apparently that both Prestia and O'Meara are leaving GC this year.

Melbourne made a huge play last year and are still interested, according to Purple.

Watts, on The Footy Show, joked he wasn't the list manager but said they are doing a great job with recruitment and would be "stupid not to look at a guy like Prestia, he's a great midfielder of the comp. So yeah, fingers crossed."

Not willing to cough up picks with high value for players whom we have multiple in his position. Not to mention he'll want a fair bit of dollar. Rather go after Hurley, Hibberd and an outside mid with great disposal. I'd be happy to trade our future picks now as I'd like to be contending rather than developing in the next few years

Yeah as said above this was on the afl website

"Uncontracted Gold Coast midfielder Dion Prestia also spent the week in Melbourne, meeting with manager Marty Pask as he looks to decide his home for 2017."

no offence AdamFarr. but you are a pleb. bernie is a top 3 kick at the club and would be an A grade boot at any club in the league. he has a laser like boot, not up and under at all. he can hack it long in wet or slippery conditions, but that is smart and experience adapting to conditions. it doesn't backfire

Read the post properly next time. I said his kicks from clearances were up and unders. Go and watch the replay against Hawthorn for a perfect example of what they both do too often.

What grade would you class Treloar? He's a better kick and decision maker than Treloar, IMO.

Didn't think much of Treloar as a team player on QB. Nothing specific to go on, just a general impression.

Thought there was a huge gap in class between him & Pendles, who drove the Pies good 1st quarter by working hard to bring team-mates into the game, but who fell away after Q1 because when we tightened up in the midfield, the likes of Treloar preferred to blaze away rather than looking to give the ball to Pendles for a more incisive clearance.

With Pendles firing in the first, they got 4 goals. With Treloar as their most prominent mid for the other 3 quarters, they got 4 goals, definitely 1 and perhaps 2 from umpiring shockers.

I do wonder whether Prestia has had a verbal agreement with the Dees bit like Dangerfield the year before he joined the Cats.

Prestia would have wanted to do the honourable thing and play out till his contract is over so maybe he has already said that he will join once his contract is up.

While i think this is how it will play out i do believe dion has a decision to make, other clubs potentially offering more money and so on. Dees won't pay overs

This is definitely true. The same can be said about Viney and so many clearance players, because that's the nature of the contest around centre bounces and stoppages.

But apparently none of this matters AF because you have been deemed a 'pleb'. It's all over.

We don't have the picks to get Dion and Hibberd, unless we get Hibberd as a uncontracted free agent...

Whod be preferred of those two, if we had to choose?

If you were told we could have both and give up a 2016 second rounder for Hibberd and a 2017 first rounder for Prestia, would you do it? If both players wanted to come to Melbourne and we were keen, we'd find a way.

Have watched a fair bit of Treloar going back to his Stingray days.  No doubt has the potential to be absolutely top notch, but would still say he has a way to go. At the moment he is very much a one way player.  He’d be a better all-round mid if he ran even half as hard defensively as he does offensively. I’d go as far to say that he’s a liability in this area.  All well and good if you’re at a club that surrounds you with hard working mids who can cover (Hawks, Sydney), but was Collingwood have a number of downhill skiers in their midfield at the moment, so poor defensive transition and accountability is the norm (with standout performances against Geelong and Brisbane proving to be the exception).

Makes me appreciate some of Petracca’s pressure acts on Monday, he’s not only is electric with ball in hand, he’s very active with his pressure when the ball’s in his area.

For a purely attack focused midfielder, Treloar can be a scrappy on occasion.  Whether it’s cleaning up decision making or execution of skill could be debated, but he generally gets the ball to where it needs to go, and he gets plenty of it and runs well with ball in hand.

What I find perplexing about this entire thread is that posters seem to base their opinion solely on our teams last performance. After a win, Prestia is surplus to our requirements. After a loss, we need more midfield depth, so Prestia is a necessity.

People are also forming an opinion of Prestia's capabilities based solely on this season, after coming of a knee reco. I reckon he's been pretty good considering he's playing in a team that has been a rabble.

We are a middle of the road team, and if a very good player like Prestia expresses interest in playing for us, we should do everything within reason to get him.

on treloar, i was having a discussion with a pies mate about him v tyson and their relative worth.

i would think they're reasonably commensurate? he thinks treloar is way ahead (as he should be, really, as he's on double the pay packet).

i, for one, want prestia at the dees in 2017 and beyond as he's clearly a very, very good player and he would clearly benefit our side.

Dom's last two weeks have been exceptional, and what he does do when he's going well is bring others into the game as well (so much like Simon Black).  We haven't quite seen it week in, week out yet.  When that happens, his value will sky rocket. At the moment, Treloar's level of output is more consistent, so I'd have him ahead.

Would Treloar v Viney be a better comparison?

Agree about Prestia.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
