Dion Prestia

Trading for Prestia is a gamble. Every club pursuing him would have performed their "due diligence" and would be fully aware of his medical issues. The unknown is how his knee will bounce back and whether or not he will have any longevity in the game. I will not go into detail about his specific problem, but either Dion will make an excellent recovery and the knee will stand up to the rigours of AFL football for a number of years with no functional decline, or he will develop ongoing issues and never return to his best.

If the risk that Richmond are taking pays off, they will look like geniuses. If it doesn't, they will look stupid.

I would be staggered, however, if Richmond will need to give up pick 6 for Prestia. Gold Coast will know the risk Richmond are taking and the potential that he is "damaged goods". That clearly reduces his currency and I doubt Richmond would be foolish enough to waste pick 6 on a gamble as big as this one. Gold Coast will make noise and publicly make high demands to appease their supported base, but the reality is that I doubt they have much of a leg to stand on when push comes to shove at the negotiating table.

So your talking something more along the lines of Ben Lennon & a future 2nd round pick?

Actually the Richmond core of Rance, Riewoldt, Martin, Deledio and Cotchin is as good as any teams.

The last two are now B-graders.  Cotchin doesn't hurt with his ball use and Deledio has an old man's calf.

Their midfield is pox.

You're probably right but they have to trade something and they can't lose any of Rance, Riewoldt or Martin.

I agree.

Brandon Ellis is very outside and doesn't win enough contested footy, but I reckon in the right side he could be very handy in a good team.

Their list drops away so quickly. I can't see how Hardwick believes he has the cattle to do any damage. If Martin gets injured it's all over

Having seen the Murray Bushrangers play this year i can happily say that Richmond have made a huge mistake giving up pick 6.

Why? There is a kid called Will Brodie who is an absolute star in the making. 189cm 82kg inside midfielder who wins the hard ball around the stoppages but also the ability to accelerate out with ball in hand.. his vision and ball use by hand is elite.

He is the type of player you could build a midfield around for the next 10 years.

Prestia is 24 and with knee problems. How many years will they get out of him?

Brodie is the obvious choice for me.

Surely if he's that good, pick would be too late to take him, no?

I'd be trading the other two though and saying to Rance, Riewoldt and Martin 'we'll be playing finals again in three years'. Whether they will or not is another story.

I can. His fate is irrevocably tied to the success of his current crop. After all, he's been the man building this list for years now.

Yeah possibly mate. He's actually tipped to be challenging for number 1 pick but don't be surprised if he did drop a bit like Ollie Wines.

Ellis is very, very outside, really has no idea of how to win a contested ball but he is a good user, probably Richmond's best.

It's no coincidence that their slide is in part due to other sides working Ellis and the Tiges out.

I think Roos was first to wake up and rather than tag the less dangerous Cotchin as most did he put Crossy on Ellis.

Can he turn it around? maybe with some good coaching.

His ball use is top class but he can be stopped way too easily.

You'll note I used the proviso in a good team.

If he replaced Bradley Hill at Hawthorn he wouldn't get a tag.

I think Lennon will be part of this trade. Lennon and Pick 6 for Prestia and a second rounder.

Not Sad about missing out on Prestia

Was in the lift at the members with him

I was shocked how small he is ,could have put him in my Jacket pocket and forgot he was there

Maybe because I'm 130 kgs but still wonder how he survives playing in the guts each week

Would the Suns want him? He may have been an early pick, but he definitely hasn't come on (like I expected him to...)
Also, I'd think Sam Mayes is a very similar type.

i reckon richmond will try and swap their pick 6 for 2 x mid-late first round picks with a club...

trade the earlier of the picks, and a future second rounder for prestia.

then they will keep the later first round pick for the draft.

something like that is fair

Won't happen as GC want pick 6, plus maybe a player. Tigers appear ready to deal on those terms.

Good to see some other teams pick up Prestia, would cost the Dees too much. If we are planning to get another mid (Salem will become the extra mid due to Marksham playing down back) we should pick up a long shot.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
