Nathan Jones recognised by competition at last

He has some bloody good players ranked behind him.

And, relevantly, this is as rated by the players - not some fat journo.

Well done Nate - a legitimate MFC club legend.

Yes, a poll of your peers is an accurate measure of your value in an industry.

To tell you the truth I was slightly disappointed to see Nathan's name this early. Obviously I'm biased but I would like to think that as we become more than just a difficult training run for most teams to play then he will finally receive due recognition

#31...poignant :)

well done Chunk

Look at all the other players AFL rankings. I think Jones is the only person outside the top 100. And he's ranked 31 by the better players in the AFL.

Another season like last year and the Jones boy WILL be awarded an AA place and will give the Brownlow a big nudge.

... was just naively watching it on afl.com.au to see some good players, then suddenly WOOOOAAAAHHH Yes! Nathan at last!! So happy

Perhaps he might now crack the AA squad

Still mystified as to how he was deemed by selectors to not be in the top 40 players last season. KB, you are a peanut.

You have answered your own question P-Man.

Will be Nate and Dom next year, then Nate, Dom, Salem and Hogan some time after that.

Tyson would shoot up the rankings just by delivering his 2014 form consistently. Would even go past Jones if his form towards the end of the year becomes his new standard.

Awesome stuff. I saw the players ranked 41-50 last night and though 'oh great, hes missed out altogether, what a disgrace,'

Go Jionesy!

The issue is, P-Man, that it has nothing to do with the top 40 players in a season. By the time they name 3 or 4 rucks, 4 or 5 key forwards, 4 or 5 key backs, a couple of small forwards and small backs, all of which Jones doesn't play in, that leaves around 20 or so midfield positions.

The question you then have to ask is if he is in the Top 20 midfielders. That's when it gets tight.

Nb. Not sticking up for K(no)B, but when you are looking at the number 15-20 spot in a squad, there will always be debate on who should and shouldn't be in there.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
