Tim Watson on SEN this morning has said he's good mates with someone involved in a recruitment/list management role at an AFL club and he has told him there has absolutely been calls from Howe's manager about a possible move.

Of course. But i doubt he will move; he already said he want to stay at Melbourne 100%.

Haven't heard much about col garland, would be a significant loss anyone know where that's at?

Interestingly when the final siren blew there was a close up of a D's player lying on the ground with their hands over their face and they looked like they were crying. I thought it looked like Garland. For some reason it was shown and there was no comment by the commentators. Did anyone else see this. I thought it was really odd. If it was Col I was wondering what was going on.

Someone on here mentioned players changing clubs to chase Premierships. How sweat it is to see Clark playing so well for a team getting further and further away from that goal by the week. Wonder how his depression would have been feeling on Saturday night if he was still here reaping the rewards of seeing a team on the beginning of a journey back from oblivion instead of being in a team that is on the beginning towards it.

As for Howey. Silly boy. Very different stories coming out of his mouth and his managers. Which is true. Probably both. That bloke wasn't the one acting for Twomey in his negotiations with the Pies a few years ago that nearly blew his career. Pull your head in mate. You don't start fielding offers unless you are prepared to leave otherwise you are wasting a lot of people's time. How would other clubs feel listening to these two different versions of what's actually going on.

If he stays, I hope he ends up in the forward line. Backs punch balls, forwards catch them. There aren't too many that can catch a contested ball any better than he can. In the heat of battle in a final or GF when a ball gets bombed into the forward 50 on a wing and a prayer you want someone who will rise above the pack, take a screamer and kick the winner. Someone as well as Jesse that is.

Maybe just a sense of relief?

Hard to imagine what it must be like for guys like Jones and Garland who have experienced no success and a lot of hardships in their career, to see the tide turning.

It's emotional for us supporters, so why not for the players?

Col has put his heart & soul in...he had a down season last year but it's good to see him back in form this year.

Hope we sign him up soon.

A manager should be (privately and respectfully) inquiring to other clubs. He has to know the market value of the player to ensure that he is being payed appropriately by the club. Even if Howe is 100% wanting to stay at the Dees, he needs to understand his value on the market to ensure that Melbourne aren't taking him for granted.

What I cannot abide is a manager playing games through the media. It is a distraction and reflects very poorly on the player who has to answer to his team mates.

No, but the Manager would want to know what his value is in the marketplace.

Doing his due diligence he needs to be able to say to his client,"this is what the MFC are offering and this is what I can get for you at "whoever". What do you want to do? Do you want to stay with the Dees? Are you happy with their offer, or do you want me to try and negotiate more?"

GWS cannot afford to pay overs for Howe and still hope to keep all their players. That list is going to cost a fortune to keep. Swap Shiel for Howe sure.

It's not strong-arming; it's negotiation.

Yes, if his manager said $650- and refused to budge or negotiate, then PJ would say 'see ya'.

But a manger and a player have to get the best deal that they can from a club, and a club should pay a player what they are worth to them. Players usually get paid slightly unders to stay at their club as there's always gonna be someone offering a tempting deal.

It's not offensive to ask for more money.

I'm more talking about the fact his manager clearly made it public he was looking at offers and leaked a figure, while Howe himself said the opposite.

Not the best way to do a deal with the club you're "100%" happy with.

Howe is a good player but he's not a key forward/defender or a gun mid so there has to be a limit. The club knows what that limit is, offer it and leave it at that. Gone are the days of players cashing in on our club.

I wonder if the club might be reluctant to offer a new deal in case they have the opportunity to use Howe to land Shiel or Treloar in a trade?

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
