Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

THE ESSENDON 34: ON TRIAL

Having an Essendon player on is topical and gets interest and reactions from viewers.

And people wouldn't be interested and they wouldn't get reactions if Judd was on, or Cochin or any number of other stars? The Essendrug player will NOT talk about the saga so i think it is a silly comment.

Oh! How do you know? Do you know who the upset mother was. I thought no one knew.

According to the Ess board on BF, Hal Hunter didn't fit the profile of the player (a 19 year old). Hunter may have been 18 at the time.

Opinion of some Ess supporters was that 'Sarah' was Heppel's mum.

That would be Warwick Hadfield I assume. He's so far into Essendon's pocket that he couldn't see anything for the lint.

The same Warwick Hadfield who from time to time has said the players were injected with Thymomodulin. Sure Warwick - obviously believes what his mates Martin Hardie and Bruce Francis tell him. Is also mates with Hird so the lint reference is spot on.

This Tuesday should be very interesting if there is a Bummers player on with Robbo. Be either giving each other a reacharound or crying.

Xarron and others make some good points. The AFL is not to blame for kids using drugs in sport or anywhere. However, there have been various times where an AFL player has been in the public eye over a drug issue. The AFL did not take those opportunities to take a public stand and condemn drugs. I don't recall a 'No drugs in sport' commentary from them. Maybe Andy D said it once or twice re EFC saga, not sure.

I commend the AFL for their public stand and campaigns on racial abuse, gay rights, women in the AFL, indigenous players in the AFL etc. They have been excellent in publicly supporting a range of social issues in sport.

But they have publicly remained silent when it came to condemning drugs in sport/AFL. One would be forgiven in thinking it is paying lip service to the problem. Some would think trying to sweep it under the carpet. Others may think the silence is tacit acceptance. By staying silent there hasn't been leadership coming from the AFL. Would it make a difference to junior AFL. Who knows.

Has the horse bolted? Maybe I was hasty in making that comparison. But the AFL need to find their voice and have a 'no drugs in sport' public campaign because as Pigdog noted the problem at junior and country AFL has been known for several years.

'No drugs in sport' needs to be a new mantra by the AFL. It will take some courage (and slick PR) to do that in the aftermath of the EFC saga but it does need to take leadership on a major issue already affecting its future players.

You make a good point about the lack of emphasis on the "no drugs in sport message". However, the AFL has a problem in that it can't pre-empt the tribunal decision. How will it look if the tribunal comes to a not guilty verdict or if the players are found guilty and get off with a light rap over the knuckles as some in the media would have us believe?

Having people like on here talking about the having Essendon players on the show is what the media want. Getting some sort of outrage is part of the game. Style is more important than substance for them. Negativity, entertainment and controversy is better for ratings than rational talk.

Pardon my naivety, but can someone please explain to me what advantage ice would give a footy player who was under it's influence? I'd imagine it would make them more fearless and more prone to taking risks on the field, but I can't believe it would improve their decision making, fitness, steadiness under pressure or skills in general. And I can't believe it would aid post game recovery or speed of injury recovery. Sounds like a bit of a media urban myth, or at least I hope it's a myth.

Can any doctors in the house provide an expert opinion?

edit: As an aside, I have a friend who's grandmother trained dish lickers in Sydney and became the industry supplier for speed and coke for greyhounds back in the day, around the 1950's. He said she told him that it shortened the dog's career considerably and basically destroyed it's body, but made them run bloody fast for a little while. Surely there are no coaches or club officials in local comps stupid enough to dope players with ice?

Never underestimate the power of frozen water Mr Moon.

Just heard on 3aw breakfast that Ross Stevenson has heard from legal sources that the verdict will be that the players have no case to answer which Ross believes is the worst case senario for Essendon as WADA will then takeover.

Just listened to Gil on 3aw.

He is already apologising for the players.

Said he believed the players did not know what they were given.

Preparing the wet tram tickets already.

I have never heard a worse performance by the chief of a sport organisation.

Neil Mitchell said to him that is no excuse!

Just past it off.

P iss poor.

This guy is a disaster, the AFL is in danger with this guy at the helm.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
