Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

THE ROAD TO ROUND 1, 2015

This will get ugly irrespective of who Gold Coast role out. Why? Because we remain such a flawed side, with players who lack basic skills or work rate and therefore

FB: Jetta Dunn Garland

HB: Howe McDonald Salem

C: Vince Jones Lumumba

HF: Kent Pedersen VandenBerg

FF: Frost Hogan Garlett

Foll: Jamar Tyson Cross

Int: Newton Viney Watts

S: JKH

Out: Dawes, Toumpas, Grimes, Bail, Matt Jones, Gawn (who really was only subbing for Jamar anyway)

In: Pedersen, Vince, Howe, Kent, JKH

Pedersen for Dawes

Vince for Matt Jones

Howe for Grimes

Kent for Bail

JKH for Toumpas

If we can get those last 4 fit and back in the team we might be able to pick up a little more than the slop we provided tonight, but really it's looking ugly.

Kinda agree GRRM, might only be a deck chair shuffle but my thoughts from tonight's game are;

Howe in for Garland (not sure what he brings to to the table now)

Vince for Bail (works hard but fails at the basics - take a [censored] chestmark!)

Kent for Toumpas (i like the kid but he needs the composure that comes with age and experience - and he ain't got enough of either, yet Salem oozes it!)

Jones has pace which we lack and Grimes showed more than Judy Garland tonight. Would think that JKH or Brayshaw comes in to sub. Gawn only if Jamar out (frost/dawes/pedo as second ruck), McKenzie useless as sub - offers nothing as a replacement - would rather someone with pace or youthful exuberance to potentially alter the dynamics as a sub.

I think with those changes we will be competitive.

i still struggle to see how vince and howe can possibly play round 1 given how much football they have missed in preseason. one, perhaps, but surely not both.

toumpas is back in my ''sigh, how'd we get it so wrong...again' list. i really was impressed at least by a half of football from him last week, but tonight was atrcious - he doesn't attack the ball.

i can't see frost can play part-time ruck and mr fix-it across defence and attack, but gawn's pre-season has been shockingly disappointing. it's hard to see him holding a spot in the 22.

some of the new players we'll see debut on the g pick themselves - the aforementioned frost, garlett, h, newton, and hogan are absolute certs barring anything unforseen. vandenberg too, presuming he earns his (deserved) senior list promotion.

i also wouldn't have garland, but given the clear preference to play frost as part-forward, part-ruck, part-defence hybrid, he holds on. just, if howe was fit there's no way he'd be in my starting 22.

pedersen in for dawes to try and cobble together support for jamar alongside frost. we are in a bad way for depth of ruckmen.

as woeful as viney's disposal is, at least he attacks the contest. he'd be in my starting 22.

B: Jetta - Dunn - Garland

HB: Grimes - T. McDonald - Salem

C: Lumumba - N Jones - Newton

HF: Watts - Hogan - Kennedy-Harris

F: Frost - Pedersen - Garlett

Foll: Jamar - Tyson - Cross

I/C: Viney - Vince - vandenBerg

Sub: Kent

i think we are heading for a world of pain against the suns. i'm terrified about what harley bennell is going to do to us on the space of the g.

The positive of round 1 is it is at the G where a skill error does not hurt you as much as Etihad or the postage stamp we played on last week. The negative of round 1 is its at the G where a running side like Gold Coast can get plenty of space and run us off our feet. This is what I would do not what I expect. Even if Vince and Howe play 2 games at Casey I don't think you can play both. I know the kids aren't the saviours but interested to see how Angus and Billy go the next two weeks as there's spots there for the taking.

Newton N Jones Vince

Garlett [Pedersen] JKH

I still think(hope) we can win in round 1. truly dont think we are that far off. and with some consistancy we will win.

as long as we dont see too long sessions of poor play we will be fine.

the next couple of weeks will be about drumming in the concept of Team Play, concentration and if possible some form of confidence building. if we can refine the stupid errors.....

Home game is going to help.

I have no doubt vanders will get his promotion, frosty will be interesting as to if he plays back or forward.

No garland at this stage. needs to show something in the 2's before getting a spot.

Gawn would be useful as 2nd ruck, if he was any good...

B Jetta T.Mac Dunn
HB Salem H.L. Howe
C N.Jones Viney vandenBerg
HF Pedersen Watts JKH
F Frost Hogan Garlett
Foll. Jamar Vince Tyson

Bench Cross Newton Kent sub ????

would like to see Brayshaw as sub, but probably wont get the gig.

therefore, perhaps grimes comes in... and I suppose kent as the sub.

We'll lose by 36 points. " Nice try Dees" will be the call from the MCC members as the players trudge off.

Not from me it won't.

Players have got 2 weeks to get their heads right.

That is where 90% of this deficiency lies.

Upstairs.

Yeah....nah.

Blokes can't kick, can't tackle, can't mark. VFL standard.

They can all do it.

But many don't beieve they can do it. The don't push through the barrier. That is what Roos was talking about last night.

Less individual and more team play

2 weeks to sort it out. It can be done if taught properly. 14 days....

Not sure about this. He's a terrific "see ball, get ball" player, but he's a long way short of "see ball, get ball, use ball". I don't know how coaches develop better decision making, but if it doesn't happen he's got a limited future.

Some have missed targets for five years.

VFL standard.

Hawthorn have never, ever recruited a player who couldn't kick - forget Chip, he's only there to punch the ball.

Two weeks won't help.

It can be rectified if Roos is the gun coach he was hired to be.

2 Weeks of intensive work from players and coaches can achieve a lot

All depends on application by all involved.

Agree, application, but some of our players may have reached skillset and cognition capacity.

Trade table will sort quicker.

The good news is that Viney has always performed well against the Suns, so it might be a good opening fixture to shake him out of his pre-season rut.

Vince will be a very welcomed inclusion if he is physically ready. He is cut from the same royal cloth as Lumumba in that he is gifted, he enjoys a final chuckle, and he is not terrified to get the ball moving FORWARD.

Not sideways.

Not backwards.

Forwards.

Towards the goals.

Absolutely. 4-5 won't make it & i do not care who they are.

Reputations mean nothing at this club. No one has one

Our captain was held last night by a dial a team Essendon most thought would cop an easy 100 point thrashing.

Not good enough Jonesy.

2 weeks of intensive conditioning.

Pedo or Brayshaw.

I wouldn't mind seeing Gus named as sub but it seems unlikely given he hasn't featured in the pre-season.

The only glimpse we've had of Pedo was against Freo where the only thing I recall him doing in the match was dropping a chest mark in the middle of the ground under no pressure. I have reservations without having seen some evidence that he's ready to go.

Toump was horrible last night, but many were giving him praise against the Dogs. We know he needs to build confidence. Dropping him for Rd 1 wouldn't be the right move for me.

Pedo was BOG last week and I was thinking of another bigger body. Toump may still get a run as I don't think Bernie will get up.

Toumpas has evolved, though.

Now, instead of making one mistake, dropping his head and disappearing, he keeps his head up and sprays a few more kicks.

At least he's trying!

see guys: improvement!

I reckon if Howe and Vince play for Casey next weekend and play well enough, Roos will play them both in Round 1.

We need Vince's decision making and kicking and Howe is a big point of difference player who also makes good decisions and kicks fine.

Vince comes in for Matt Jones or Bail and Howe in for Garland.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
