Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Wash your mouth out son, #8 never kicked a mongrel in his life. :)

I humbly apologise.

I still remember being at the Northern Stand end of the ground - having a kick of the footy on the concrete area and watching Tassie kicking those magnificent drop kicks whilst ankle deep in mud.

( for those too young to remember - yes - behind the goals at the city end - from forward pocket to forward pocket was no seats and concrete (for a period of time) and you could have a kick there even when the game was on)

edit- Jesus I am old...

I bought a Lada.. I polished that car , I tuned it , I bought it the best oil and I serviced it even before it was due for servicing.I had the finest mechanics work on it . I didn't flogg it - I simple gave it all my love and attention.

Alas - it still goes like a Lada.

I know how to double the resale value of a Lada.

Put in $5 unleaded.

If they made anchors I'd say do yourself a favour and don't use any rope.

Yet another inane post.

Firstly, very few compare to Neeld in terms of failure as a senior coach. His win% of 15.2% is half that of McCartney's at 30.3%.

And secondly, for the umpteenth time, McCartney is a good appointment for his credentials in development. Ask ANY Bulldogs fan and they will have nothing but good words to say about McCartney's legacy in terms of developing their young midfield. Conversely, Neeld's development record at Melbourne leaves a lot to be desired.

Neeld may excel in an assistant role as he did at Collingwood, but in terms of their recent records in youth development, one is streets ahead of the other.

30% is a lot better that's success right there, never finishing higher than 14th.

The Bulldogs drafted better than us which isn't hard they picked up 2 better players than Toumpas, received a father\son pick and picked up Bontempelli other than that they don't have a lot going for them. We will see how they go next year.

Both Neeld and McCartney are nothing appointments.

30 is double 15, yes.

Right, they just drafted better. That must be it.

Maybe you can wish with your heart of hearts that they both become ill. That's your go to option, right?

Oh wait, you apologised. All is forgiven for such an unbelievably crass comment.

Folk may need to be reminded we got Macca for his development ability...is beyond reproach.

Comparisons to Neeld are a nonsense other than Mark has just taken a similar role and has some background

I know whom Id rather .. happy to leave it there in that respect.

Had a look at our coaching panel and it is:

What interested me there isn't someone with forward line play/coaching experience. (Our website said Mcpherson played in defence/midfield for the Swans). I think we recruited a part-time ruck coach but couldn't find him in the 'Staff' listing so the ruck part is covered, if he is still with us.

No disrespect to our coaching team but I wonder whether we need another forward coach to work with McPherson as our coaching team looks a bit weak in that area. I for one would like to see another experienced, forward coach (but i don't want to see all the ex Geelong players follow McCartney to the Dees).

our ruck coach is Greg Stafford and I also think we need someone to help the forwards but Chris Dawes and brad miller would be pretty good for the young guys. I hope that we get the OX down in a part time role.

I feel like we have done quite well with the recruitment of coaching staff in the last two years, especially in comparison to the other clubs. Its almost like we dried up the source of coaches. I can't say whether Neeld to essendon is a good thing or not because I really don't know, but my gut feeling is that Brendan mccartney was a better get.
I dare say that rocket prob wasn't the ideal candidate for the suns job either. Good coach, but I imagine they wanted something more but were forced to take what was available.

Now theres the battle for a couple of clubs to emerge with a coach some time soon, and many that have coaches are looking shaky.

For the first time in my life I feel like we are starting to bolster.

Go dees!

Tassie was one of the greatest exponents of the drop kick the game has ever seen and what a pity the art is lost to the modern game.

Your memory serves you well nutbean, nice to know there are others of my vintage posting.

Were you present at the GF in '64 ?

I must be just as old. Peter Hudson said that Tassie was the best fullback he played on. Very under-rated.

The best drop kick I ever saw was Phil Rhoden, a small, bald back pocket known for little else apart from his kicking.

I would be more comfortable with someone who has had forward line coaching experience. Dawes will be busy just getting his own game into shape and Miller wasn't such a stand-out forward. Ox would be good for nous and skills - talked glowingly of the work that Robbie Flower put into his kicking for goal.

With Hogan coming in, good small forwards and some goal-kicking mid-fielders I feel it is time to seriously beef-up our forward coaching expertise, IMO.

i would have said Hairy Garry is an option, but then I remebered that his media career can't be interrupted by the very thing that gave birth to it.

Meanwhile Eddie McChineyChins is a president and runs the media, really wish Garry had more time for the club, on his time- not when begged to!

Wait - is the thread title supposed to be a joke?

An homage to Maloney, Davies, Pettard and Peterson?

Yeah, we might want to fix that...

Would just like to put it out there that it was not me. I'm not sure why we're even in the practice of changing perfectly good thread titles. We have a pedantic bugger in our midst.

But I have fixed it.

I would like to apologize profusely to Kurt for proposing he was ever a candidate for Demonland villain status.
That being said, WerriDee has filled the void beautifully.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
