You point being? What do you think we should do?

doesn't matter what I think we should pick as the odds are stacked that whoever we pick there will always be someone "we should have picked".( cue Demonland going into meltdown)

What I think we should do - we have started doing last year and have continued ( hallelujah) - we should concentrate heavily and invest in developing the talent we bring in. Roos identified this last year and has gone one step further by bringing in a recognised developer of players in BM.

Fyfe was not drafted as a midfielder. It tyrned out ok.

Roos has said he doesnt draft talls.

it is expected that Petracca will go pick one.

I am told we have firm interest in lever and laverde for pick 3. Source called hogan contract extension offer way before the media and luke shuey pursuit before it was in media.

It doesnt matter who you tell this to NSC noone believes it. As we have been saying you will all see come draft day!

Don't mention Ocean Grove...

I would struggle to name 12 good mids for 2017, that we have now.

Jones is 30. Vince is near the end. Tyson, Viney, Salem, JKH, Newton, Brayshaw, and Kent. That's 9.

They all have to come on - they won't. I hope they all do, they won't. There will be some that come out of nowhere. Maybe Stretch will be ready.

Another class mid needs to be added now IMO.

And of course, there's three more draft/trade periods between now and 2017 where we can add to that list. This year's draft, 2015 and 2016. So those 9 mids will more than likely climb to 11 or 12. Quality of those players is debatable, however.

Anyone who thinks macartin will get past our pick 3 is dreaming.

He will go pick 1 or 3 mark my words in 3 weeks feel free to quote my post.

He is a bull and I will be very happy.

And why wouldn't you be very happy? Brayshaw is a lock for us and we either get Petracca or McCartin. Both St Kilda and us will win out of this draft, whichever way we elect to go [or whatever hand we get dealt by the Saints]!

Definitely but none of the midfield names attached with pick 3 fills me with confidence.

Lever is a highly decorated junior but played all his game as a KD and missed 12 months with a knee. Tom Swift was also a highly decorated junior.

Laverde also hasn't played much in the mid.

They may have the tools but with no midfield runs on the board, I find it hard to project. It's not an easy transition to HB to mid (as James Strauss and Christian Howard found).

Hard to say they will be class mids. So do we pick that type even if that type might not be there?

Do we need a mid. Hell yes.

but we need to nail a quality player at 3 regardless of size.

My money is on Pat.

Agree and as I have said before The midfield issues are being addressed ! We also have a better Half Back and Half Forward line to play.

Can I ask this when did we last have a KPF with a bit of Mongrel?? Think probably Nieta and Schwarta! That's it

So we have a chance to grab a kid who has got Mongrel in spades, Takes contested Grabs, Kicks well for goal and is agile!!

PLUS HE MODELS HIS GAME ON TOM HAWKINS AND JON BROWN !!

SHEEIT I'D TAKE HIM JUST FOR HIS AMBITION ALONE!! WHO ELSE IS SO BOLD!?

Forget Lever and Leverde for reasons provided above! we already have enough of these already !

BUT WHAT WE DON'T HAVE IS ENOUGH TRUE KPF

If we overlook this kid and someone else takes him and he makes an immediate impact Then several things will happen

I will hark back to the shizen recruiting that saw Ollie Wines become an overnight sensation

I will seriously question our recruiting staff and

I will struggle to continue to support an administration that has got it wrong YET AGAIN!!

Demonland will also go into a complete meltdown!

Nup, think Stretch and anyway outside run is not our greatest need IMO

It is a KPF with GRUNT!

I'll quote it now and hope for your sake he goes pick 1, because if he doesn't he thinks he's going to GWS.

With 0 AFL games?

Your point?

Picket Farce says we need a KPF forward with grunt, I'm pointing out that we have one.

I'm not sure how many AFL games McCartin has played, but I doubt it's more than zero, correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually he has played no more than either Hogan or Clark over this last year [and they were both touted as the reason we could only draft mids at this same time last year]!

Perhaps you could take a leaf out of HH's book, and add to that:

I will never post on Demonland again.

We have Toumpas, Salem and Stretch just for starters, two of whom are already in the system [and will be much-improved aftter their first full pre-season]. Lever and Laverde are starting from the same position as Stretch and there is absolutely no argument that either will improve our structure to the extent Mccartin will [lining up alongside Hogan]!

If we take McCartin with pick 3, what hard inside mids are likely to be in the mix for pick 40?

Hopefully a Nick Mellington.

Big inside 188cm midfielder who is already 87kg.

Will be ready to go come round 1

Agree we have no forward line yet and a good midfield with no forward line will still see scores of 3-4 goals.

I want a player that is a tough mudder fooker. One that believes he should be there. Has the courage of conviction to be the best. Petracca and McCartin seem likely types here.I want other clubs to fear us.

I want the alpha males in this draft crop. AFL football is a tough caper. Let's get the Demon back in Demonland!

This is something I no longer care about.

We have enough mature bodies now.

I want the players who will be the best in 3-4 years' time.

What's the point in having a kid that can scrape into the 22 now if that's all he'll ever be able to do?

Being a man child at 18 is not indicative of their development by the age of 22.

Only 9 games less than Tom Boyd, and 8 goals behind.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
