McKenzie more likely to still be there though. Would be very surprised if McDonald gets through to the 30's, let alone pick 40.

Would be just as surprised if McKenzie slipped as well.

I was certainly excited when JKH's name was called out.

I like the result but really, like most here, didn't have much of clue abut him, other than his catchy name. Just hope he doesn't go to Dallas.

I'm sure we'll have a slider or 2 available at 40, but with picks 2 & 3 confirmed I would expect that outside speed will be looked upon very favourably here.

I suppose it's a good thing we already have Stretch then!

Well at least it looks like the Saints won't take him.

Late mail... Demons to look at Matthew Hammelman for pick 40. Elite tall from Queensland. 198cm, good athlete, good mark and kick. Would compliment Hogan and develop into ruck/fwd combo with Gawn.

Makes sense. I think we would take McKenzie if available but Hammelman is the likely back up plan if we want a key forward at pick 40.

Interesting to note that Brisbane had access to Hammelmann as an academy pick but chose not to select him.

I would have thought a key forward would have been at the very top of their priority list.

Emma Q's notes from her 'Draft Combine Harvest' series:

Matthew Hammelmann (Morningside)

Born 8.3.1996, 197cm, 88kg

AFL biography: Tall Forward with strong hands in front, on the lead and overhead. Has good pace off the mark to get separation on his opponent. Can also play in defence. Showed promise in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 10.3 disposals, 7.3 marks and 2.3 goals in his three matches. Brisbane Lions Academy player.

Adrian Fletcher, AFL Queensland: "Matty keeps building his game. He's a mobile forward who can get up on a wing, he has that ability to come at the kicker when they need him, then he can slide to the goal square and take marks down there. He's got to keep improving his contested stuff but that will get better as he gets stronger and builds more upper body strength. He's very mobile and really just that modern, hard-running forwrad who can help you coming out of defence."

He is the 2nd tallest in her list of tall forwards (tallest is F/S pick Darcy Moore). A few cm taller than Jessie and 4 cm taller than Dawes...Matt would fit our forward line nicely. Would be a good get in terms of team structure and developing an excellent 'spine':

Spine in 3-4 years: Frost, McDonald, Petracca/Brayshaw/Tyson, Hogan, Hammelman. A lot to like about that...only thing missing is a ruckman to match that talented spine. Either one of ours comes good or we will trade one in.

Another midfielder (somewhat unknown): Neal-Bullen

Damaging medium midfielder, particularly around stoppages. Uses his quick, clean hands to great effect. Key player for South Australia in NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 19 possessions, five clearances and four tackles in six matches. Courageous player with elite endurance. Played nine games for Glenelg in the SANFL, averaging 20 disposals. Third in 3km time trial (9:54) and equal-fifth in beep test (15.2) at NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Think we need to trust the club, they did ok with JKH # 40 last year!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
