AFL National Draft 2014 Picks 2 & 3

McCartin up forward will do no more damage next year then what Frawley did. If anything he'll have less of an impact so I don't see big things happening their if we draft him.

Happy to take Brayshaw

I wouldn't be unhappy with a player who in his first year has equal Impact to a seven year player who finished top ten in the club b & f. It would give him the rest of his football lifetime to exceed that and make him possibly a 200+ game player of quality over his entire career.

At least he knows how to play forward.

Brett Anderson tweeted:

"Jake Lever won't be heading to the Dees at pick 3. Would have loved them to take him, but now GWS/Geel/Rich seem likely destinations. #AFLDraft"

His mail is usually spot on so looks like Brayshaw and whichever of McCartin and Petracca the Saints don't take.

I was wondering why we hadn't heard 'Demoneyes' proclaim we'll "certainly be picking Lever" for a while.

Anyway, if true this makes me very happy. There are three standouts at the top of this crop, take whichever two the 'Aints don't select.

I wouldn't rule us out drafting Lever.....

I've heard (as of Tuesday) from one senior coach and two recruiters (one Melb based and one interstate) that they still believe we may pick Lever based on PR's apparent love for the kid! Whether this eventuates is still to be seen.

Angus Brayshaw is this year's Ollie wines, Allen Richardson saw first hand the influence Wines had from day dot, we could end up with Petracca and McCartin yet.

Not wrong. Predominantly played off half-back.

Story goes that Rendell wanted to see what he was like in midfield and asked the coach to give him a spell in midfield to see how he went.

After Dangerfield dominated, he quickly asked him to get him back to the flank!

The other the thing to consider when reviewing the Dangerfield pick is that the draft rules at the time allowed 17 year olds (turning 18 the following year) to be included in the pool. Dangerfield was a bottom ager in his draft year, and a lot of clubs were inclined to go with older age prospects as safer bets (due to greater exposed form of the older draftees I suppose). Rule changes came in when the new franchises came in (and subsequently given priority access to the best 17 year olds).

I remember him playing a lot out of the goalsquare as a forward, but that may have been post-drafting when he still played in the TAC Cup for a while.

He also loved Jasper Pittard - "best kid interviewed" but didn't take him when had the chance.

That's right. Adelaide applied for an TAC Cup overage exemption as he was finishing yr 12 in Victoria in his first year on the Adelaide list.

Rule were changed shortly after clubs complained very loudly. Remember him getting a haul of 7 or so that year.

Although I was against it, I'm realising that McCartin may indeed end up at our club as much as I thought we wouldn't draft him.

As long as this desire to compete and aggro that people speak of is there then it's a positive. Still worry about his goal kicking yips.

And would still rather two mids.

You're a goose.

I will stick my neck out here. No I'm not flying off the handle but i have had a gander at my responses. So you have put me in a fowl mood and I have realised this thread is for the birds!

my weekend info from dazzledavey's favourite golf source:

There is some hope Petracca may not be pick one.

The HS this morning from my reading has Petracca pick one as a fait accompli.

In the article Petracca has apparently told the StKilda people - "I won't let you down"

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
