I wouldn't worry about that.

Sometimes players need a change of scenery to get that spark back. We've all seen Garlett's talent and skill on display and when he's playing with confidence and belief, he can be a very dangerous small forward.

Not only that. We have one of the best development coaches within the AFL in Paul Roos as well as his mastermind right hand man, Georgie Stone. The MFC is a very different environment to come to these days. The out of sight improvement in players such as Pederson, Jetta, Kent, Dunn etc proves how skilled Roos is in this area of coaching.

Ross Lyon learnt under the great man and look at what he's been able to get out of a player like Walters? All players respond to coaches. It's just a matter of how to approach the individual.

Garlett would be a very handy pickup.

Dawes has struggled without having a crumbing forward around him. It makes his 10 dropped marks per game look worse. At least with a crumber he can attempt to palm the ball down a bit more.

So...like Yze?

gave me a chuckle :)

I seriously doubt Carlton will be doing a straight swap for Blease. Garlett has currency. Blease (and Strauss) has next to none.

Some Carlton fans suggesting Pick#23 --> Garlett + Pick #28? Slight downgrade that is worth considering.

Garlett is really worth a third rounder, which we don't have.

I like the idea of a swap for Blease! Two players who did not realise their undisputed potential this year but would like to try to achieve it at another club. Fair swap IMO!

This makes a lot of sense

Both players have risks - both keen for another go - seems straight forward

Probs won't be but hopefully a swap of late picks and doneski

The other problem with Garlett is how damn soft he is. He makes Watts look courageous. I don't know how we toughen him up.

Maybe we can hire Beamer as a development coach just so he can run his Warnambool boxing sessions again. Worked a treat for Wattsy.

If Cale Morton was worth pick 88 Blease would be worth 150. Guys, don't act like the Collingwood List Manager. Players like Blease, Strauss, Tappy, have zero trade value.

23?? even with downgrade is way way too much for ol Jeff.

Its a deal we DONT HAVE TO DO btw.. We sit back....wait for them.

Pick 23 downgraded 5 spots.

I don't see the Blease swap happening, so deals like this might have to be considered to get it done. We would hope for better, of course.

is psd a realistic option?

Yes, for one prospective recruit.

Which is why you want to get as many of these deals done now as possible.

You only want to go to the Russian Roulette Table of Irrelevance once a year...

I don't mind it but it's another rumour/trade that does nothing to address our deplorable midfield. Lumumba, Frost, Garlett none of them will help us win the ball out of the middle. If Petracca goes 1 that's really only 1 mid (Brayshaw) who could plug in next year and he'll obviously struggle for consistency for a couple of years due to age.

Let's also trade Col back to the club and get Mitch Robinson over as well.

We should then also change our club song from 'It's A Grand Old Flag' to this:

If we take Garlett not only would the due diligence be thorough but there would also be performance/behaviour contract clauses to help manager 'issues' - good risk management!

As PR has a NDH policy if Garlett makes it to us all bases will be covered!

There was a time when he was one of the top small forwards in the game.

Carlton were much more dangerous when he and Betts were up forward and in form.

A new environment and Paul Roos may re-ignite him or might not.

Didn't I read that they don't want him at the club ? Makes it very difficult for Carlton to play hardball unless there is a second suitor.

Lots of talk that we'll pay 23 for Lamumba, so maybe they'll take 28 instead. So in effect we'd get Lamumba and Garlett for pick 23... I'd take it.

Same thing occurred to me.

And that doesn't factor in what we get for Clark, which it seems we're playing hardball for.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
