Toumpas suffered from a dose of the second year blues that were not helped by injury and illness. Is looking for a strong preseason to build a base for a better season in 2015.

To me he actually got more of the ball than say Salem, but was not preferred. I think Roos would be expecting him to provide more in his third year.

Surely one of these high draft picks needs to come through?!?!. but right now I cant predict where he will be. would he be thriving if we were a winning team? not sure. my gut feel is he can play but he needs to build his strength.

what do people predict for him ?

Can somebody tell me why we chose Toumpas? And now all seem happy to get rid of him without admitting they made a blunder

Posted

He was meant to be an elite runner with great outside finishing skills. His double hip Surgery as well as some bulk to his frame seem to have effected his pace alarmingly and he became another medium paced midfielder to go along with Trengove , Jones , McKenzie Etc Etc. We were searching for an attacking pacey wingman with great finishing skills but is yet to happen for Jimmy. Would be happy to for him to stay and deliver next year. But I could understand his trade value because next year if he is still not performing I think he will be delisted

I think right now he might find his value is on the trade table. Rois needs impact players and we need them yesterday. Dimitri still a season off anything meritable imho. Let another team give him that time.. we need mids NOW !!!

I'm still befuddled as to why Jimmy spent the year at Casey whilst the likes of Salem, Kent and M.Jones were allowed to stink it up in the seniors for most of the year. I think Roos was in damage control mode after the West Coast loss, and then found himself unable to bring Jimmy back in without him showing massive signs of improvement at Casey. He certainly hasn't lived up to his draft position, but I also don't think he is as far behind as some think. If the coach shows some faith in him next year we will see a much better player.

Malceski can show him the ropes...

Keep...It's very hard to assess players without a functional forward line. IF IF IF we can get Hogan, Dawes, Howe fit and playing regular footy it will be a much easier judgement to make. Toump will be the perfect player to run onto our backward hand balling style once we actually have a target to hit.

We can't undo the Wines mistake, but we shouldn't hold it against Jimmy.

Reckon a re-brand from Jimmy to Dimitri would do wonders.

I would not give up on Jimmy just yet, there are so many more players that sit well below him and with many more years in the AFL, he is now heading into year three, please lets give him a chance.

If the supporters wanted to get rid of every player that didn't show much, I think we will be left with just enough players to fill the sub vest!!!

It still staggers me we would pick a kid who had double hip surgery.

Do you remember the issues Scully had prior to being drafted at number 1?

We picked up a bloke who had double hip surgery DOH TYPICALLY DUM MFC RECRUITING

Meanwhile a certain Pt Adelaide guy is close to BOG in the annihilation of the Tiges! BOUBLE DOH

What I predict to what might happen is twofold!

Trade up and out while some currency prevails and the reality?? more pain through inability to rediscover pace, and outside run to become another MFC Stuffed draft choice, that's my take!

I immediately feel sick to my stomach knowing we picked Toumpas over Wines when Ollie was living with Todd Viney and best mates with Jack....

And despite all that, when JV was asked who he'd like to see drafted alongside him his answer was Jimmy Toumpas

Go figure

Right there with you, to see the character and courage Ollie brings to the table is EXACTLY what MFC is missing at the moment and to think we brought another outside (at best) player like Toumpas in, knowing his injuries in the past and how this would reflect his future was the worst decision since Morton. I honestly thought we were over that crap too.

I'd like to see the direct quote from JV in regards to taking Toumpas over Wines as I think that's heavily fictional.

Was it prior to or post the Toumpas signing? he's hardly going to turn around after the signing saying that we should have signed Wines.

Either way, such a poor decision and it makes me sad.

Yeah, we could have had Judd with double shoulder surgery as well....

Pre-draft. It was a bit of a puff piece interview asking Jack how he felt about being taken as a father-son selection to Melbourne. The question about who he'd like to see drafted with him was at the end. I think it stuck in my head because I was surprised by the answer - it was well publicised that Jack & Ollie were mates - so I expected to hear him say Wines

It's likely Viney played a fair bit of rep footy with JT as he spent a few years in Adelaide after leaving Wines behingd in Echuca

He (JV) was being interviewed by Ox on SEN after Melbourne had secured him in the Father / Son bidding. Viney said that Toump was the pick of the players due to his leadership and training standards. Jack followed up though by saying he didn't think he'd be available still by Melbourne's pick. A week later I was wrapped when it looked like we'd get him.

Blame Neeld for that. The vast majority of recruiting staff wanted Wines over Toumpas, many had felt Toumpas peaked as a 17 yo.

Neeld felt he had greater "character and personality" over Wines and in the end the head coach gets the final say.

Wines will win a Norm Smith before Neeld gets another job!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
