if that's the way roos envisions his role playing out, and as such he'd become presumably part of the midfield rotation going forward every now and then rather than defensively, then i'm more inclined to pick him up.

as deestroy all noted above, the only player he's an actual improvement upon as a defender is terlich.

He aint a goal kicker though. For a guy with his attributes of pace, ability-to-break-a-tackle, disposal efficiency etc..., he doesn't cap it off enough.

It's a highlight real, the contents are determined by the editor. It's not some kind of empirical document. You could make up a highlight reel of Jack Watt's tackling if you were so inclined.

No he didnt lay a tackle, but i loved that thing he did when he had the ball and threw it down onto the ground and it bounced up and he caught it and ran on again... wow I wonder some melbourne players could actually learn how to do that.

As for his long bombs, i think the speed of his ball movement and the fact that he gets an extra 20-30 meters because of his runs its likely to give our forwards more chance of having one on one contests rather than the slow movement around the cape and back again that results in 36 players all in our forward half. an attacking approach to the ball and the game, he would certainly be an asset to have.

My whole point is he isn't an upgrade. He's a stalwart at a good club (that didn't make the 8) and was once an All Australian defender (in an era when AA defender selections rarely take into account actual defending ability).

People see him break the lines and kick the odd goal from 50.

Is he an upgrade on:

Dunn? No.

McDonald? No.

Jetta? No.

Garland? On this years form anyone is. At their best I'd take Garland.

Howe? Not sure, but it would let him go forward and take hangers of H's moon balls.

Terlich? Absolutely.

(We'll assume Frawley has f_ed off)

EDIT: I forgot Grimes. Better defender, courage and presumably a better leader. I'd prefer Lumumba with ball in hand. I think Collingwood would prefer Grimes on their list.

So he's definitely better than Terlich. What a pick up.

Roos doesn't like forwards that don't defend, I fail to see why he wants a defender that can't defend.

And I'm not exaggerating, he plays loose to begin with, and one on one he's terrible.

I don't know of possible better recruits that are available other than possibly Malceski. I'm just commenting on Lumumba because he is available and likely, and I know enough about him to hate the idea of recruiting him.

Currently, H is an improvement upon Grimes, Terlich, and Garland. Before this season we would have all included Jetta as well (except Saty, he's always correct). Comparing H to TMac and Dunn perhaps isn't apples with apples as they play on key forwards. Only Howe and Jetta have better disposal than H from that list and Roos has indicated Howe will be moved forward again as soon as next year. Howe and Watts have played back at times partly because the others lack the ability to hit any target by foot or hand.

How many on that list have been AAs, averaged 20 disp this season, 22 the year before or came top 5 in 2013 B&F?

We'll almost certainly lose Chip next year. IMO we need at least one key defender and two experienced running HBs next year. While Roos and crew know infinitely more about this than me, I'd consider an improvement to be 2 or 3 from Lumumba, Gwilt, Malceski, Frost and hopefully others. I wish we could attract better than that, but let's be honest, beggars can't be choosers.

I'd like to think we're all sick of limited players.

I watch every Collingwood game, usually with my best mate who is a Pies supporter, and I see the Lumumba frustration every week. This year particularly, he gets the ball, but what comes next is highly predictable. We all grew tired of Moloney's get ball boot ball style, this is no different, apart from the dash at the start.

This isn't like adding Cross and Vince, we had no midfield, they are pure midfield accumulators and were much needed.

We need half backs that can run, carry and most importantly hit a target consistently. Someone that sets up play off half back, not someone that simply offers relief for 25 seconds.

I saw the excitement in Paul Roos when discussing H on 360 so I'm resigned to the fact that its likely he's on his way here. I'm just putting it out there that I strongly believe this is not what our back line needs, and hopefully we do get what we need somewhere else, and Lumumba plays on the wing and bombs at goal from 50.

In Roos I trust, I 'spose.

I don't disgaree but who should we be targeting? Malceski is one who could fit the role but it seems he's off the radar. Who else should we be targeting who 1) is out of contract and 2) would come to MFC? It's all well and good to say that we shouldn't settle for limited players but we need to identify who else is available otherwise it's pointless.

Ok, so I was chatting to an old coach of mine who happens to support collingwood, and we got on the topic of lumumba.

This old coach of mine can talk, he has that much information stored, every now and then he deciders to unpack it lol.

On this occasion, he told me about the last name lumumba and its history with the congo.

I won't go in to too much depth, but it made me reconsider heretier and his motives for changing his name.

Petrice Lumumba was a congolese independence leader and he played a massive role in developing independence from Belgium in 1960 and he was also the first democratically and legally voted prime minister of the republic of the Congo.

Petrice was assassinated in 1961 by american and belgian governments orders. (theres much more to it)

Heretier was apparently born in rio de janeiro to a brazillian mother and a congolese father.

According to wiki, he lived in WA with mother and step after for a while and only found out about his biological father at the age of 19.

I couldn't find any info that suggests he is a descendant of patrice, however its a good enough reason to wish to change your name to that of your fathers or your relatives.

That may be a reason that he can be quite outspoken on his opinions also, he may feel that as sharing that last name, he needs to speak his thoughts on what is right.

Who knows, but i found it interesting, and it changed my perception some what.

Very impressed with the highlight reel. He reminded me of Jurrah to an extent and I am sure that Roos could use him very innovatively if he decided to add him to the list. He would only improve our team compared with the likes of Nicholson and Clisby who we have just delisted.

Secondly, this guy is exactly what we need. Hard trainer, Line breaker, experienced, premiership player, All Australian.

Granted he has some different beliefs, but that's what clubs are all about. Roos is a different beast to Nathan 'FIGJAM' Buckley.

He's there to play FOOTBALL and help us WIN games.

Anyways, I'm not particularly opposed to him coming to the dees now that i have read a little more about him, his changing of name and surname.
