Daniel Merrett

Our favourite journo Greg Denham is reporting that we are a chance to recruit Daniel Merritt from Brisbane as a replacement for Frawley. He is 29 and contracted. The article says Brisbane may pay part of his salary. IMO He could be a decent pick up at the right price.

The article also says Guilt from St Kilda is off to GWS.

I thought we had done pretty well down back with the competitiveness of McDonald and the emergence of Dunn. I think we perhaps just need some fast ball carrying good disposers off the HBF's.

However for the right price I'd contemplate throwing him up forward(Where he goes pretty good also) for a couple of years while Hogan is developing.

What an exceptional job Brisbane have done going to the draft, to the point where they can now trade Merrett.

Justin Clark (Rooke Draft Pick 4, 2012), Darcy Gardiner (Pick 22, 2012), and Daniel McStay (Pick 25, 2013) will be 10 year key defenders, and I think Michael Close (Pick 32, 2012) will be a beauty too.

Makes me want to rebuild the rebuild of the rebuild, properly this time with Roos in charge, and draft big aggressive, competitive kids like they have.

Yes I like what Brisbane have done and they have some great kids coming through. Most people thought they were gone after the exodus of players they had but they rebuilt through the draft smartly and are well ahead of where we are now, plus they finished off the season super competitively. A lot of upside with the players you mention plus Aish, Taylor, Green, Freeman, Hanley, Rockliff, Mayes, Martin, Rich to come back - they will be a good side quickly.

I have full trust in Roos but after what he did with Sydney with filling the team with recycled players, I'm still nervous about what's ahead!

As with all of these guys who come on the market it's a question of how much we have to give up for him and if he is going to contribute for at least a few years while others develop.

If Brisbane want to basically give him away for a very low pick to get him off their books, then why not? If Chip goes we can stick him down back and we know we are going to get a contest and a bit of mongrel from him each week. Reckon there will be a few interested though.

An older version of Chip, would allow for the development of some young KPD's for a few years to naturally develop rather than be rushed and straight into the senior team.

Rate him as a better forward, but not as good a backmen as Frawley, but our backs did pretty well this year. Would be interested if he doesn't cost too much.

Would no doubt have to apologise to Pedo before the trade could be accepted on our part.

The same reason that Brisbane are getting him off their books. They are looking to develop a team, we need to do the same.

Absolutely, but we still need some experience in there to help them develop. If we lose Chip we don't have a ready made replacement. Someone like Merrett fills the gap and helps with that development (if he is someone we were looking at anyway).

If a cheap pickup could prove an excellent fillip.

To suggest that Brisbane finished the year super competitively is just nonsense.

They lost 3 of their last four games by huge margins, Crows 103, Freo 48 and Cats 62 with a win in between against a badly depleted Pies.

Mahoney confirmed on SEN this morning that we, alongside Frost, have been sniffing around this bloke to fill the hole of Frawley

"It's very early on in negotiations, but we'd like to think we're well placed for both of them,"

Thoughts?

29 Years old. Can be very dangerous. Has a heap of Cee U Next Tuesday about him, which is what our players need. Especially if you look at how Hawthorn played/won the Grand Final.
Wouldn't mind him as long as we don't give up much for him.

2-3 years of his experience and toughness at both ends of the ground. If not too expensive, a yes from me. Would help a Frost and McD too. Even could help Hogan up forward.

I say get him. Can swing both ways. (get your mind out of the gutter people) :)

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
