I fail to see how the first two have anything to do with the AFL. We got the pick we deserved for Sylvia and nothing more. Vince was a win but we could have easily traded that pick for a spud or used it on a spud in the draft. We will also get the fair compensation for Chip, a bloke with 7-8 years of footy left in the peak of his career. However he is just another player free to leave, and the AFL's rules didn't even allow him to be restricted.

The big fuss with Mitch and Jimmy, I mean he only met him for a minute and then bang goes the number and the backstory that went with it. All total spin.

However you are right though, we should have foreseen that the AFL would create a new rule, where we would be the hardest hit in terms of numbers of players leaving any club.

I believe the number will be 5 when Chip goes, the GWS bloke, Rivers, Moloney, Sylvia and Chip.

It could actually be 6 if you include MC and the fact that he will dictate his departure..

And of course MC leaving is all our fault as well.

Leaving the political correctness matter aside as it gets up my skirt on occasion also.

Lumumba seems to be on the outer at Collingwood does he not? Personally I couldn't give a tuppeny about his beliefs, they are his, but it looks like its upset a few at Collingwood , they it also seems, would like the problem to go away and here is a possible solution.

My concern simply is, that a straight swap for Clark IMO is unders.

No, my point was really more about the big fuss made of the number at the time. I just thought the whole thing was pretty dumb, a player at the club for a minute and handed the number 11.

31 had a chequered history as well, Templeton was one I remember then Scully, Grimes should never have agreed to change his over. Just let the players make their own history.

If the clubs environment and everything that came with it did indeed impact on Clarks health to the extent that it has been reported, and now the clubs environment is a trigger for his illness, then I understand if he couldn't return to melbourne.

It would be painful to see him at another club, especially collingwood, however if that is the honest situation then i can accept that, his options shouldn't be limited because of that.

However if particular areas of that are not accurate, then that point of view changes dramatically lol.

Sorry, as much as I loved Jimmy (like any Dees supporter), I am really getting tired of this line being trotted out. I'm sure MC did not ask for Jimmy's #11 and I'm sure he felt genuinely honoured to be given that number, but to say that somehow makes him beholden to Jimmy and that he is in some way or other besmirching Jimmy's memory is ridiculous. Sure have a go at him for being greedy, for being dishonest, for turning his back on his supporters and admirers... but to somehow tie this in with Jimmy?...

On reflection - it says more about the club than it does about the players - we have given 31 to Phil Carmen, Templeton, Scully and now Grimes. We made a large display in giving no 11 to Mitch. These numbers do have a history and more cache than other numbers and the club has provided theatre around giving these numbers to certain players. No player since RDB has added any shine to the number 31 and the first person to wear no 11 (and there was great ceremony involved in giving that number) has also not added to its value. I think the club should reflect on this and at the end of Grimes run retire the numbers and not give it to a savior player the minute he arrives at the club ( Scully/Trengove/ Clark)

And we won't if we 'deal' with any club.

We should be able to deal Clark and get our draft assistance as well, but again, the rules are mere suggestions to the AFL...

I'm absolutely filthy on clark.. He COULD be the absolute scum of the earth (worse than scully) BUT I have this feeling we don't want him. I honestly believe that behind the scenes roos & co are more hell bent on the fact we could use this to our advantage in the PP plea. Maybe mitch and the club have agreed to part ways and both get what they want. I wouldn't be suprised if we delist him and he walks to collingwood as a free agent. A few weeks back when mark Evans said the PP was not based on on-field performance rather "tradgeic" circumstance, he may well have been planting the seed for this situation. I highly doubt roos/Jackson would be letting clark walk out the door ... If not than mitch is an absolute dog and I wish nothing but the worst for him because it looks like he's played us quiet the fools

If his body was right physically, there is every chance depression could stop him playing. He retired due to his depression and inability to get on the park. Freo paid a third round pick 55 for Scott Gumberton last year.

IMO Mitch is a far greater reward than Gumby was ever going to be with similar risk.

Late 2nd early 3rd round pick 35-45 min for Mitch.
