GOODBYE MITCH CLARK

Recommended Posts

If he stays with the club, fantastic.

If he chooses another Victorian club I'd be extremely disappointed.

I wrote him off once thinking the club would never sign him, so until I hear it from the horse's mouth I'm going to wait and hope its the former.

Hogan, Clark, Dawes, Howe, JKH...

Supercilious [censored].

He almost puts the blame on Melbourne for Mitch's depression. At least Garry batted for the Club.

In fact the Club offered Mitch assistance with his illness for a long time before he finally acccepted that he did have a problem. MFC has gone out of its way to work with Mitch both with his foot injury and his mental illness.

As another poster has said if the Club does want him to play PR is the man to convince him that the MFC is the place for him to be. If he had a problem with the previous coach/CEO - both are gone and replaced with amazing football/admin brains. Our coaching staff are almost all new. So if he did have a problem with someone last year that problem is almost surely have gone. However, what has worried me for some time was Mitch's comments that he missed the boys and only missed the Club a little bit.

Whatever happens we have people in place who know what they are doing. So if we do lose Mitch there will be a back up plan.

Unfortunately all this media speculation may send Mitch back to the dark place he has just come out of.

Maybe MC's return was predicated on Mark Neeld being annointed the successor?

I always thought this was a scenario that will play out like this from the begining but better not discussed throughout the season. IMO opinion the depression stuff was all bull and calculated. If he does not want to play for us then better he goes for good. Any player that is not happy to play for us is a tumour that must be excised before it spreads. The best thing for the club is to play hard ball and get maximum compensation if possible.

... and have you noticed that since GNF's post, there has been much more of this sort of sensible trying-to-come-to-terms-with-things and much less of the wild speculative drivel from before?

All I've noticed is a truckload more hand-wringing and personal abuse towards Mitch Clark.

Anyone claiming that Mitch was faking his depression does not deserve their opinions heard. You're worthless as a poster.

They deserve an opinion as anybody else here so get off your high horse buddy.

Just remember though, the last time we got a nut-kick was with Scully, but it actually turned out pretty well for us when the dust settled

If, as some are pondering, we can turn this into a top 5 draft pick then we win

Yeah, I'm with you, sort of. Hogan on the park might make me feel better though.

Rubbish.

If Clark leaves Melbourne I'll be very unhappy with his behavior, but to claim somebody faked being depressed is to belittle a very serious condition. It is offensive not just to Mitch but anyone who has or knows somebody who has suffered from the condition.

Manager o SEN: No guarantee to get back, didn't rule Melb return out, will know more after Clark's meeting with Roos, very noncommittal. Sounds like a shifty character.

Said Mitch wouldn't walk away without us getting compo

"To say he won't play with Melbourne today isn't true today, still has to speak to Paul (Roos) so to it may become true later in the week, I don't know"

Sounds and smells like a shady manager, probably is one.

I would be shocked if Roos told him "look we are going really well. Don't need you. I'm trading you for a meat pie and a packet of hair dye".

Colin Young:

Decided last Friday to return to football.

Met with Melbourne and the AFLPA late last Friday.

Possibility that Mitch could return but no certainty.

Catch up with Roos this week.

No certainty that he would make it.

When challenged on 'is the not-at-Melbourne stuff rubbish?' Young says yes it is a possibility that Mitch Clark returns to Melbourne, and it will be sorted out after Clark speaks to Paul Roos (either today or tomorrow). [striker: Sounded like he was saying something when challenged, certainly wasn't outright about it.]

On his health:

Took 2-3 weeks off after retirement.

Afterwards developed a timeline for a comeback with Young including a training regime.

Went on to ask where the rumours came from but my connection dropped...

If he spoke with MFC then why did Mahoney essentially say otherwise on the website? Sounds like BS.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
