continued failure of melbourne hurts the whole competition as well as just melbourne

having a merger or relocating solves little economically for the whole competition

does anyone really think having a dedicated team in tasmania would be an improvement?

it would just be another broke team drawing sub 20k crowds and being propped up by the afl

a merger just creates more byes and less games for the tv rights

if the afl believes in a fair equalisation scheme it must do something that impacts on melbourne's player list in the short term

i have little confidence they have the will to act independently or effectively as they are too blindly beholden to other "infuences"

i expect no more than the same piddling snake-oil spin they gave last year

Trade all draft & PP's if granted.We need senior players, we had senior players Bailey told them they are not needed, how can we get senior players now, you buy them, we spent all our money on Dawes & Roos. Neeld tried this but had no idea what a footballer is, if you had a medal around your neck he thought you must be a champion (Dawes,Byrnes). Roos knows this as well & has had better judgement ( Cross, Vince) he will continue to do this during the of season,look out if your a deadwood player with any value, if he could Trade Dawes, Frawley, Watts for lets say value 1.5m he will replace with 5 x $300,000 senior players. Unfortunately dc club self interest means the majority are happy for us to stay easy beats until we fail to exist in five years time.

A number of footy goes I know think we will be the Tassie team in five years time.

Suits them just fine.

We also have to understand that in an eighteen team competition there are always going to be 4 - 6 clubs that cannot cut the mustard.

There are too many teams IMO but that is a separate discussion.

Yes but the difference is the AFL will support it like GWS and GCS.

Down deep inside now that AD is gone the AFL want less sides in Victoria that just mouth otherwise.

By the way I agree with you but I just think it is like the "Clash jumper" no power so we cop what they dish out.

I will be extremely surprised if a pp is ever handed out again.

If I was a bulldog, Geelong, Richmond, St.Kilda supporter etc... I'd be saying that the MFC are in this position because of its gross incompetency over a decade, and they can suffer the consequence of their own pathetic decisions. What do we want now, Stefan Martin back?

TGR..its not about deserving. The is a facility within the AFL's own rules that can provide one under certain criteria. We qualify. Its really as simple as that.

The rest is waffle really. Under the current conditions we could use one. As to taste in the mouth, thats life.

edit..Do I think we'll get one ? again not a chance in hell as the AFL seem to ignore there own guidelines half the time and make it up on the fly....to suit.

Club self interest would also see several want to see us have a PP because we have shown a willingness to trade them.

That's the point of Roos coming out on Monday to say pick 2 is on the table again.

He has said that last year clubs did not think we were serious about trading pick 2 so they did not offer much. At the same time the other clubs were opposing us getting a PP. If they had known they could have traded for it maybe they would not have wanted to block us getting it.

I think our strategy this time was to hope that last year's Dom Tyson trade would have had the other clubs less resistant to us having an extra pick.

It's pretty clear it won't work though.

Of course supporters of other teams are gonna be [censored].
If it was their club getting the PP they would be over the moon, take it and run.

Although the general consensus I get through friends who don't particularly dislike melb, is that there is reason, and on the basis of helping the new management get a grip of the situation and rectify the mistakes of the past, then yes they should get a pick.

But to the general public - most are ignorant to the finer details and ins and outs of the club, they think 'why should they get another low pick, they've stuffed up so many' - without taking into account the change in management and the task they face.

The poll right now shows 33% in favour of the dees getting a PP.

When the exact same poll was embedded in the Barrett article this morning, it was sitting at 27%.

The only hope we have is Gil.

About this time last year he said (in a Ch 7 interview) there was a good case for the Dees to get a pp. Then all the other clubs ganged up and he couldn't get it through.

Also, he is a very passionate St Kilda supporter so the only way they can get one in the next few years is if Gil goes to bat for us now (unless AFL hypocracy kicks in when the Saints put their hand up.)

Time for Gil to show his mettle and make a strong decision for what is right and not what can be lobbied, otherwise it will always be 'survival of the fittest'!!

Evans has been crapping on about the dees probably not qualifying for a pp. He said along the line of a pp is there in case a club losses a player by an unexpected occurrence ie passing away then the club needed it to help restore the list.

They put the criteria up on the couch I think and it was to do with wins and losses over an extended period amongst other things which I can't remember at this point but when I was watching it we QUALIFED for a pp.
