We had Collingwood players come to our school today, Harry O, Clinton Young and Jonathan Marsh (rookie list).

I asked them about Melbourne's improvement and their thoughts on the way we play. It was amazing to hear them say how much harder we are to play against and the competitive edge that has been added over the past year. They also commented on how brutal our defence has become to play against, stating during the Queens birthday game it was tough to break it down.

Most of all i was impressed to see the respect that has clearly been instilled into opposition players who no longer take us lightly. This time last year we had Collingwood players, Goldsack and Jamie Elliot to stated we werent too good at the moment.

Great to hear.

Paul Roos said when he got the job all he wanted was to be competitive and win the respect back from the AFL.

Roosy should be our PM.

still can't believe he is our coach.

"Roosy should be our PM"

Typically flippant comment from someone who clearly doesn't grasp the difference between the complexities of job demands between an AFL Coach and the job of Prime Minister of Australia!

Ah, Tony Abbotts response to escalating world conflict not "Up to Par"?? Dazzle?

Poor example,

Gotta say JVFP, when I saw the !!! in the title I assumed it was a 'picket fence' thread..

Paul Roos said when he got the job all he wanted was to be competitive and win the respect back from the AFL.

Unfortunately, you are right, and its reflected in the whole 3-year-limit succession plan thing.

I wish his real mission was to win a flag.

Now now, just because he systematically excludes the evidence bases for informed public policy, sees negotiation as an affront to his manhood, engages in gratuitous cruelty just to show who is in charge, and is setting out to cripple the medium-term national finances with a series of short-sighted interventions that rip apart programs which make a substantial net gain for government expenses...

Well, ok, I'm for the chimpanzee. At least a chimpanzee understands that smashing a banana against a rock because you are too lazy to peel it is kind of dumb.

Oh, hey, that was Picket Fence making those comments protecting Abbott. Lol, maybe he's a climate denier as well as an disposal efficiency denier?

Also, it was really nice of those Collingwood guys to praise the Demons in a context where they had absolutely no obligation to.

From the sound of it, it was more than just 'it was a tougher game than last year', but a real 'they were better opponents than last year'. A subtle but edifying difference.

Huh? Lighten up.

Good to avoid politics in a footy forum, but anyone who interprets an enthusiastic "Roos for PM' remark as an attack or sleight on their favourite politician is just a tad over-sensitive (tad used ironically).

Nice anecdote.

Obviously Picket Fence is a nutter!

To be fair dee tox I don't think PF is the only nutter on DL.

And Gillard was sooo much better.....when will people learn that they are all the same!?

Great to hear/read that they find us harder to play against, wonder what would have been said if we beat them!

Hahahaha classic picket fence at his best

That response to a phrase often used to show respect for someone whose achievements you admire would seem to indicate that our friend and fellow poster is a few pickets short of the full fence.

My only question mark over the original post is... why are Collingwood players visiting your school; isn't it time to get a few Dees doing the rounds?

I can't resist it... I can't.... I know it is old, cliched and tired, but I can't resist.

The Collingwood players weren't actually 'visiting' as such, they were there for their fifth attempt at Year 8...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
