We don't want that [xxxxxxxxxxx] anywhere near our club.

Speak to the Geelong ppl about him.

Failed in his duty at Essendon.

Should never be near a club again.

There needs to be a discussion?

9 year deal. Buddy style. Do it.

Is anyone really shocked? I mean great news and all but this was a done deal a while back.

not shocked or even surprised. Pleased though. The timing is interesting. Thought will have gone into when they chose to announce it. I suspect they want to create a good vibe in the playing group to maximise the chances of winning sat night

I think it gives them 6 weeks to have a massive crack at hanging onto frawley

I reckon this is a small element of why he re-signed now. He commits, other players have over the last few months and the club is clearly improving, even if the ladder doesn't necessarily suggest it. We can't do much more than that.

Great news that Roos has committed now though and we can look forward to the next 2 years with some optimism. We just need to make sure we choose the right assistant to take over now.

In a further boost for the club, Jackson told AFL.com.au he expects to discuss his own future with Melbourne when president Glen Bartlett returns from his current trip overseas.

Jackson said the succession plan remains the preferred option for the club but agreed that Roos' commitment until 2016 opens possibilities if the right candidate cannot be found.

He made the point that only Fremantle's Ross Lyon and the Sydney Swans' John Longmire are contracted beyond 2016.

"If the right person comes along, that is fine, we'll run with that, otherwise we'll just keep looking," Jackson said.

Jackson said the issue of extending his own tenure as CEO was not solely his decision and he expected it would be on the agenda when Bartlett returned.

"When he gets back, I'm sure we'll talk about it," Jackson said.

Frankly, I am not fazed if Frawley wants to go!

If he stays well Ok, BUT, he stays on about 450-500 K per year 3 Year deal with incentives,

Take it or leave it!

If he goes that gives us an end of round 1 draft pick and massive bargaining power. not to mention salary cap room.

Ahh Come to think of it, I don't mind in the slightest if he goes!! Not one little bit!

Among other things Is his kicking really up to AFL "elite" standard?

The pleasing thing re Roos re-signing is the demonstration of confidence in the clubs structure and that he now has emotionally connected and will be a long term presence. No way would he have committed if the hierarchy is dysfunctional.

It looks like PJ will be around longer as well - again he would not stay if it was going to damage his brand.

All in all it looks like we finally have got our shite together.

Another thing Roos said is he didn't want to move on too many borderline players because he wanted to see how they went under his system, expect a big clean out at years end

I'm not sure about that. I wonder if getting a second top ten pick might be more important than keeping frawley. We need mids and a gun kick at half back way more than a kpd. Perhaps he wants to let prospective trades he sticking around as they weigh up their options

This is what I am hearing:

* Paul Roos will sign for a 3rd year............ its as good as locked in.

* There has been informal discussions with Bomber, as senior assistant next year. There is a good chance Bomber will end up at Dees but unsure of what his position will be in a succession plan.

* Paul Roos has been working very hard at encouraging target players he wished to bring to the club. This is all unofficial and via managers as season still on. I am told these talks are going VERY well.

* Confidence of Frawley staying is low. Club has been preparing for his departure. However, still not 100% that he is leaving.

Thank you as always :)

Right on the money again..

More likely to be the pick straight after our first pick not end of first round. So if we finish 17th it would be pick 3 straight after our pick 2. I'd take the pick over Chip. No disrespect to Chip but I don't think he will do for us going forward what pick 3 would do for us. Or pick 4 or 5 depending on where we end up.

Great news ... Paul will need at least 2 more off seasons to get our list up to shape.

It's ages away, but entering 2016, we might even be a contender for a top 4 spot (if everything falls into place) Next year, we need to get as many wins as we can and be pushing for a spot in the 8.

A fit Hogan and 3 more topline midfielders and watch us climb the ladder.

I wonder if this news has some effect on Frawley's decision? I'm holding out hope that James stays because we need him (in my opinion) Otherwise ... we may need to use a pick that we'd ordinarily use on a midfielder on another KPP.

Posted

Would definitely rather trade in a gun midfielder using a compo pick from Frawley, than keep Frawley. Defensively we're holding up just fine without him, and Hogan will be replacing him as a forward, so the team can comfortably go forward without him.

We still need to bolster our midfield stocks, I've got no doubt that's Roosy's target for this trade period.

My issue is we're then left with only 2 KPF's. One gets injured and then it makes it hard to win games. As it stands, Hogan can't get on the park and Dawes has had his injury issues. Fingers crossed both of them are always available but I still believe we need a 3rd option anyway. Pedersen can pinch hit and Gawn might come on but a solid, 3rd, KPF would be ideal.

We need another player who can play as a KPF and I've been quite happy with the role that James has played. Now, he may be gone anyway but as of right now, I see him as a required player.

Dylan Shiel & Jeremy Cameron, solves both problems. :D

Pointless having amazing key forwards though if the midfield isn't giving them solid delivery. Just look at how miserable West Coast are this year, their midfield is just awful and brings the whole team structure down despite their talls all over the park.

This news got me pumped up, been watching some of the best moments of the season so far.

hard to top this epicness

Im not sure if this is accurate in anyway, but I was told that he was into some drugs, cheated on his wife and when he left geelong, they were actually giving him the flick. The source is not particularly credible. Is that accurate at all?

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
