Corey Ellis Rjay? I watched him a few weeks ago and thought he could play the role, what do you reckon?

Haven't had a good look to make an opinion yet 'Paul'. We certainly need players that can use the ball, I wouldn't mind Malceski if we don't have to give too much up. We really need to draft and trade good young class into the club though and can't rely on picking up more players with only a couple of years left.

He would be a PSD pick.

Reported that Swans have increased their offer and Melbourne now out of the race.

With what the Swans are paying Tippett and Franklin (and Mitchell reported $500+), they are going to have to shed some players; upping an offer to Malceski will only add to that.

If they don't win the granny this year, it will be because Mummy has left.

The first PSD pick could still be a very tactical bargaining chip.

But maybe in a wider context also than just Nick.

Perhaps we've also gone quiet on Malceski, simply because we can't sort out a deal that doesn't dilute the compensation we receive for Frawley (that is, assuming the loyal country boy leaves the club).

Going by the media reports it's hard to say whether we have actually spoken to Malceski and he has indicated he won't come to us or whether we just haven't bothered speaking to him because we're not after him.

Most media are suggesting it's either GC or Sydney with us only even mentioned as an afterthought. I wonder if we've even seriously spoken to him? The only reason I could think of not doing so would be it would water down our Frawley compo however this could be mitigated by a trade rather than FA recruitment. I hope there's been some work behind the scenes because a guy like him coming off half back is exactly what we need.

We're fools if we didn't explore the possibility of trading him to us to avoid ruining the compo. Sydney will get more out of it if we give up our second rounder. I'm sure there's more at work behind the scenes here.

Not worth a 2nd rounder.

2nd rounder downgrade maybe?

We're going after quite a few 3rd rounder players this year in Frost, Lamumba, Merrett and Malceski. Ironically our 3rd rounder could be tied up with Stretch.

Should be some interesting maneuvering going on. Pick 22 is overs for any of those players.

His age is my concern, better to develop a player in that role, a playmaker off half back will be vital to finals aspirations and malceski won't be around that long

On one hand I agree. On the other I want to win games in 2015 and he can play that role while we develop someone else (Toump?)

Whats Grimes role? If we did land Makceski and Harry where would he find himself?

In the twos, unless he can fashion himself into a tagger. I'd say that'll be the case even without Malceski.

If a 3 year deal is the sticking point, give it to him and front load the crap out of for the first two, we should have plenty of space. Leaving a third year payment of say 100k. Worst case scenario he doesn't play the third year, minimal damage to that years cap is done and could be any worse than now where we are effectively ten players short.

Do you SERIOUSLY believe that Sydney are constrained by the (inflated) salary cap?

I mean do you really believe it?

They are one of the "special clubs" !

They may well land another huge name this offseason, and be allowed to get away with it due to their 'lack of success' this year.

The COLA is being removed or phased out this season.

Anyone else think we'll go hard for Malceski and turf away our compensation for Frawley if the Hawks have indeed screwed our compensation band?

I'd like to see him brought in and paired up with Strauss. I think Strauss needs someone like him to lead the way and then develop into this role. I know he's been underwhelming to date, but I still think worth persevering with. Was going alright late 2013 till some [censored] kicked him in the chops.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
