Jack Grimes

I am not sure what to make of Grimes. He has been in the system for a reasonable time but from what I have seen of him this year he has not taken the next step.

He seems very predictable and is not a good on field decision maker. In my opinion he is treading water as an AFL player and needs a very big 2015. He may be a good leader off field to young men but stuffs up far too often in battle.

I watched him very closely yesterday particularly when he was kicking in.

I think the guy has poor peripheral vision.

On a number of occasions he totally missed players on their own calling for the ball and ended up kicking to a contest.

He's just another that hasn't come on. He's first games I thought we had got our own Hodge in the making. He's really slight these days. I recall one preseason game years back and I couldn't believe how solid he was. He's obviously had to shed some size to minimise long term injuries again, but he just gets pushed off the ball way too easily these days. Apart from that spoil this year I find it hard to get enthused about him these days which is sad, because I thought he was going to be elite.

Is harshly treated on Demonland.

Reads the play better than the majority of our players.

Yet another player who can't kick to a target to save himself.

and adds his name to the Dees ever increasing list of NQR's

Yeah its brutal. yes its calling a player for his ability....god forbid

pick a top 8 team he'd get a game at ??

I reckon he'd get a game at most if not all of them. Rather have him than the Silvia thanks.

Not sure he is quite that bad bb but there were ten yesterday that would not get a game in the top 10 teams in fact I doubt they would be on too many lists

Opinions of Jack will change drastically if his skills improve 5% that's how fine a line it is, we can cop skill errors at this stage not lack of effort a

Given where he's placed in the pecking order by many I reckon he comes up far length short of where he ought to be.

He's like a handful of Dees...skilled but unsuccessful at delivering it during a game.

but that's ok hey .......

I suppose Demonland has to have a whipping boy. Grimes, Garland and Frawley seem to be the current ones.

According to the MFC Stats site JAck Grimes stats are Avge disposals 19.3 per game @ 78 % efficiency ( Yesterday 17 @ 88.2% plus 6 tackles and 2 1%ers.)

Frawley was mentioned as one oour best. He held Hawkins to 2 goals despite the good quality ball coming in.

Likewise COlin Garland did his role on Bartel fairly effectively.

Compare this with Jack Viney ( yes I know he is only 19) and I am not knocking Jack VIney because he has heart and is improving . Jack V had 21 Disposals @ 50 % which indicates he has an area of his game to work on. It also highlights how difficult it is for our Forwards to "shine" when the disposal efficiency is so low.

Mentioning another whipping boy in Jack Watts , PAul Roos stated in his Press Conference that Jack has a specific role to play, and currently players around him are not playing their roles so it makes Jack look BAD. I think he inferred all the Forwards were not able to do their role because of the lack of effective delivery ( and support) into their area. ( And I do not neccessarily mean lake up all the time)

No one wants whipping boys here....really.

We just want a decent competitive team

but

we , in reality have a team where at ;least half are pretenders,

There are copious amounts of players that ought to be f'n brilliant but just don't 'bring it' come game day.

Am I being harsh..? Am I ? Those players placed on pedestals are fair game imho

its not social footy its AFL...lets grown some not just on the filed but over the fence in appraisals.

He suffers in supporters' eyes because he is being forced to play an offensive role that he isn't suited to. Why? Because we don't have anyone else who can do it.

He is a very good defensive backman, because he's fast, strong, a good size, strong overhead, selfless and does all of the one percenters that make a good defender.

But he is being forced to run the ball out of defence as one of our primary defensive ball users. That's not his best role, but he fills that role as the selfless leader he is.

He would play in any team.

Seems to be a similar sort of discussion than the I'm over Tommy Mac one that was running recently. Didn't agree with that one and don't agree with this one either. But that's ok we're allowed to disagree . Grimesy has had some pretty good games this year, as has his co captain. They just need to bring them every week. Think that might have been the path Roos was going down yesterday.

A team can support about 2-3 players who have disposal as bad as Jack Grimes. We have about 15.

Even if Jack's disposal never improves, it's likely that we can compensate for his weaknesses as our team improves. We can then play him in roles that accentuate his strengths (being able to run through the midfield and also play as a third-man up spoiling defender).

Currently however, he's pretty much a shorter Jared Rivers--and that's not what we need in a captain.

Well said AoB. He isn't a world beater, nor will he ever be a 'gun', but he contributes plenty to the side and is asked to play roles that don't necessarily suit his skill set as we don't have anyone else.

Yes since when was good kicking been all that imprortant!

and thats it OD. everything else is shot

We have players who can kick but kick to where , to whom etc

we have players who run.....one way

we have players who mark but have no nouse

we have a lot of players in short who have some cards but not the deck.

its the ongoing description of our club...great !!!

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
