WE have no hope of a PP. We have been more competive this year than last year. We didnt get one last year we were a total basket case. so forget that option.

IF Chip goes, we trade that pick for Boyd, Throw in Blease, with a 3rd rounder for Shiel. $cully gets his best mate in his team.

Hogans Heroes does the honourable thing, we reach a comprise, instead of NEVER posting on here again, he refrains from posting until 2015.

Homey removes his rose coloured glasses and stops drooling over the 42 players on the list, and accepts the facts, approx 8 wont cut the mustard.

Essendon gets kick out of the league for 12 months, Collingwood fold. We get to train on the "G' once a week.

Gillon McLachlan sees the funny side of Connolly's off the cuff remark and reimburses 50% of our fine.

2016 Stretch and Lovett are ripping it up off the 1/2 backline. Hogan and Boyd lead the coleman.

Oh for a perfect world.

GWS will have more grumbles as they have so many high draft picks before considering all the other issues of young players moving up there. These kids were top of their class etc coming in and not getting good game time. The exodus will be constant as the team matures and other clubs should benefit.

And GWS will just trade them away for more high draft picks and the age profile of there list will spread out and and their "window" will last longer.

Two years ago effectively the same comments about unhappy players in a no-hope team were being directed at the Gold Coast Suns. If I were a GWS player, I think I could see some blue sky just past the silver lining. Leaving now might not be the best career move.

Leaving, however, might be desirable for anyone who finds living in that environment unbearable - but that comment could equally be made about country lads living in a big city like Melbourne, too.

Waiting for a GWS player to come out and say 'I won't be renewing my contract and look forward to entering a fair draft and accepting my fate the same as any other new player, just like I should have been able to 2 years ago."

Essentially right. They will remove all the eggs from just one basket sts. This is also why they might listen to suitable trades, even ones that on the surface seem ludicrous. I did say listen though, and thats often a distance from agree !!

I'd love Boyd, but the Giants would want a huge amount for him

they'd ask for something like pick 3 and Tom Mcdonald

Off topic, but I'm waiting for an AFL player from any club to come out. I can't believe there aren't any gay AFL footballers and they shouldn't feel they have to hide.

I'm waiting for some potential draftee's parents to come out and say our kid will not be going to GWS. A lot of kid's futures have been put in doubt being drafted up there already. Some really good talent is not getting a fair go.

Bang on, if Thomas boyd was drafted at pick 2, he'd have played every game for us this year imo

Jono O'Rourke, not getting much of a look in either

it's really no surprise there are so many looking at the door

People get seduced by high pick's too easily.

If you took Boyd purely on his performance this year and not on his draft position you'd have to have a very different opinion of him. He's been extremely poor in his first few games. Hardly got a touch. On the basis of those performances he would be a huge risk. He might be a player who's early physical development gave him a huge advantage at Junior level but he doesn't kick on at Senior level. He is a risk at this point. Do we need to take more risks with high draft picks. I think not.

Jono O'Rourke has been very disappointing so far even though he was a no. 3 pick. You wouldn't offer up one of our high picks for him now.

People keep saying "Roos said he wants mids mids mids", blah blah... News flash: WE WON'T BE ONLY TARGETING MIDS!

We still need another key forward (like Boyd, I'd love Tex), another backman who can f'k'n kick, and another ready-made ruckman to take over from Jamar while Gawn/Spencer/King all develop.

Dom Tyson didn't necessarily set the world on fire, but we essentially traded pick 2 for him.

He was cut down by injury but had some outstanding games when he managed to play. Boyd hasn't had any of those injuries and isn't showing anything.

That's interesting, you were still interested in him a couple of months ago

"Let's worry about fixing our forward line next season. We've cultivated a great relationship with GWS's list managers and we can probably work out something with them (who knows, maybe Patton will want to come home"

People aren't entitled to change their opinion? I've watched 4 or 5 of his matches over the last few months, and every single one (including just this past weekend) he's made multiple brain dead kicks, or missed easy set shot goals that could've won matches, etc.

He may be coming off a lot of injuries but I'm yet to see his potential as a #1 draft pick.

This thread fits with information I have from someone who worked very closely with Boyd at the Eastern Ranges. Aside from being the third possibly fourth option behind Tomlinson they have stacked 6 kilos on him and now wonder why he can't get to contests like he did as a junior.

In saying this we need to focus on mids and anything we would want to offer would be trumped by clubs that have an absolute need for his type in StKilda and Brisbane.

HH may want a million dollars and a year's exile in Paris, given precedents elsewhere, as a "punishment"!

Bit of a difference between Gold Coast and Parramatta,I imagine.

Well, you should still be enthused, according to some other posts in other topics, he would fit right in with that playing ability, althought he would be on the delist wish list within a year

So would GWS - at us for even suggesting it.

Why is that? He's a number one pick, a tall forward which they have in abundance, can't get a game, and is disgruntled. Pick 4 isn't much of a downgrade and would certainly tempt them. It would be a different story if he had taken the competition by storm a la Cameron, but that hasn't happened.

I think we don't want or need boyd...but we could help get a deal done and get what we need as part of the process. GWS and MFC have dealt well recently and it sets up potential to do the same again.

As for the fuss about substantiating a rumor, we can all appreciate the need to keep identities confidential. Getting multiple independent sources (thanks BRFE) helps, and if we see evidence of movement with boyd, then we'll know a bit more about reliability of the OP.

I remember rumors last year about Roos that sounded like madman's fantasy in early may...and look what happened.

He wouldnt add to our line up ? just asking

I actually think Hogan, Dawes, Pederson, JKH, Kent and Watts will work. We need midfielders. I am not worried about getting someone like Boyd (ofcourse i'd be delighted if we actually got someone like him). If we got someone like Tomlinson, then great! but they are necessities.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
