  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If true that would be the final great performance of a club leader.

Redleg - I expect better - if you can suffer through the footy show have a look at exactly what Barrett actually said.

You have lost me, I don't follow what you mean.

I replied to a post that suggested, that if a reporter was correct, that Chip might not attend the B and F.

I said " IF TRUE" etc. What is wrong with that?

All good ( and a bit of tongue in cheek) - Just the misreporting on here that has grown legs. the original story that if Frawley goes he wont be at the B&F ( which is standard fare for players who trade out before the B&F) to Frawley is refusing to go. I have heard the story in two places and its a bit like "we arent say he is going we are just saying that we dont expect to see him at the B&F". Just thought this was demonland at its best.

This is just a really unfortunate way for things to end.

Got drafted at precisely the wrong time and has gone through 8 years of crap but still fronted up every week and given his best, until this year.

He's been a great servant, but it's an unfortunate ending.

Also interesting that in today's article, the figure to be offered by the Cats is $500k per year, but it says that Hawks, Suns and Dockers are also interested but that they wouldn't t be interested at over $700k per year.

The question then is if they would pay up to $700k per year, why would he go to the Cats for only $500k per year? That is $1m less over 5 years.

I think his contract will be for more than $500k per year. He was asking for $800k a short while ago. Also I don't think his recent form will have anything to do with his new contract.

still sounds similar to my early mail , Cats; 2-2.5 over 4 with a kicker to 5y..conditions apply. Ages ago now so we'll see what transpires. He's % 99.99 gone though. Such is life

I don't think anyone reasonably expects Chip will stay anymore. So surely the only thing we need to know now is what deal will qualify us for pick 3. If anyone reliably has that info could you please let us know so we all have something to barrack for in all this.

There's this from the AFL website:

COMPENSATION

A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.

The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:

1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.

Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:

• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

And this from The Age a couple of years ago:

CLUBS HAVE BEEN WARNED COMPENSATION IS:

* Not designed to fully compensate a club for the loss of a player

* Designed to reflect the relative values of various players to one another

* Not designed to make concession for the ladder position of a club losing a player, but standardise compensation across five categories of picks.

In typical AFL fashion it appears that there is enough wriggle room in all this that they can make happen whatever they want to make happen.

seriously who could blame chip for leaving. he has had so many coaches for the years and no success. If hawthorn or geelong came to you of course you'd leave. You know next year you will be playing finals. This is why our club has to strat getting better on field.

But if he went ot a gold coast or gws then I would be more disappointed because then its more about the money probably.

Why is the compensation not designed to fully compensate a club for the loss of a key player?

How is this a fair system?

It has been designed by the players to allow easy movement.

It was never meant to be "fair"

We just have to get better at luring the players we want.

I agree with your third point but the system needs work. An unfair and manipulative system is discriminatory in my view.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
