Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's basically the point made by a few on Sundays Game Day.

The consensus was somewhere around the 500k mark, which was first suggested by Tom Harley.

I think if he is 500k a year and is open to stay, then we should consider signing on that. Compensation at 500k will not help us land a good replacement, and we will still have some draft picks to focus on the midfield.

But without knowing the inner workings of the club, it is hard to know whether Frawley is that focused or if he is the one of the guys who Roos referred to as 'having scars' from previous beltings.

The whisper i got about 2 months ago was he is in all likely hood heading to Geelong. Nothing in concrete as it cant really be ( wink)

Coin around the 600 mark...for 4 years with a kicker

Curiously its not a football type source but someone who runs a business down that way.

Now could be a yarn....could be the goods ...Time will tell

I also agree with beezlebub in that several weeks ago I obtained the same info and posted it on this site!

AT THIS PIONT I WOULD PREFER HE GOES, this will give us some room to move re trading and manoeuvring ( and plenty of spare cash) for other more pressing needs.

I think he is looong gone. So lets start preparing for 2015 without him!

If he stays, it will be for an amount that would make most of us blush. So long as it doesn't cause a salary cap issue - and it won't - I still can't work out why any fan would give a flying fig about that.

We've overpaid enough players in recent times - and none of them have really produced.

Davey, Dawes, Clark, and now Frawley.

600k, keep walking.

I'd rather pay a couple players from GWS 300k each - both would have more potential than Frawley.

Dawes and Frawley haven't produced?

Boy we all see things differently.

I can't imagine someone like Frawley holding out and then re-signing unless ... he is genuinely looking at getting maximum coin from 2 or 3 different clubs with salary cap space (including our club) or ... good money from a genuine contender.

What he may not see coming is our clubs attitude to the whole saga ... if we've played our cards right, we might decide to wish him well in his future endeavors and let him go (if he receives a good offer) In other words, call his bluff at the last moment. Or ... he may be a required player who we don't want to lose. Roos knows the answer to that question whilst we can only speculate.

Pick 3 or 4 might then come our way if we were to lose James. We could turn that pick into a decent player and a later first round draft pick (similar to the Tyson/Salem deal) Coupled with our "other" first round pick, we could end up with 3 top prospects.

We've got a poor list and we need to find a way to fast track our list into a much better list. A couple more Vince or Cross type signings on top of that and we've (in theory) brought 5 decent players into the club in one hit. We might also get lucky with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks as well ... we could do with a bit of luck. JKH, Kent and McDonald have been more than handy "late" picks so it's not impossible.

I can also see the club trying to find new homes for a couple/few of our contracted players. 3rd and 4th round draft picks might come back in return. Let's not forget that Roos let 12* players go from the 2013 list (including 3 rookies) For the most part, he'd seen enough and didn't want to have another look. A similar scenario may well transpire at the end of this season.

*The 12 players let go from the 2013 list

Sylvia (free agent)

Rodan

Tynan

Taggert

Davis

Davey (retired)

Sellar

Macdonald

Gillies

Magner

Couch

Stark

n.b ... 14 players were released or traded out at the end of the 2012 season (including Morton, Martin and Gysberts who were all contracted at the time) Rivers and Moloney left as free agents.

26 players out over the course of 2 off seasons was the wash-up.

And if Roos did another 10 this year (which is what is being forecasted) that would be 36 out of 44 in 3 years, surely some kind of record?!?!

although some of those would be duplicates (some outs same as some ins in same period)

Good point daisy. I still reckon there would be few lists that have been turned over as much as ours, and that will be backed up statistically after this off season. Christ it's depressing. Was trying to be upbeat this season, but this week the camels back was broken (again, after many post season operations!)

Close enough, BtR.

There's 21 players left from the completed 2012 season ... 'dc's post above explains the discrepancy in numbers somewhat ... here's the 2012 list

It will be a huge turnover of the list, all the same (even if there's only 7 or 8 changes at year's end) I reckon we'll somehow make 10 changes to the list and I expect the club to be quite an active player in the off-season.

what concerns me most is just where are we going to get quality replacements

after all there are 17 other clubs picking over the bones too

i know we have got to do it but i don't hold much hope we can achieve much in strengthening the list in the short term

it's going to be (another) slow rebuild

If that is true which it could be, you would want to think that Harry Taylor is on $1.6m per year; because he is clearly twice the defender that Frawley is...

I think Rivers gave him a good reference. & also to Peterd as well.

word has it that maloney could re-tern to the hollow as a rookie?

So how did it affect Hawthorn last year regarding Franklin? Your opinion can't change from team to team.

I knew we weren't crap, the players are just distracted giving a [censored] about Frawley!

it shows less in a hardened professional outfit, than it does hurt a battling one, with scars. this band would be concerned with losing any good players. it hamstrings their ability for near success, in most minds.

but the coaches know its better to have committed players working together, with fresh talent coming thru to train up the right way.

Agree he can stay if the price is right. The current admin won't pay overs. They're not as stupid as Frawley and his manager think.

Anyway the question is moot because he is long gone.

would you rather have 'Chip' now in Red'n'Blue, or Shiel or Tomlinson? next year. I think our future is clear.

Frawley is after a 7 year deal, that's what his manager is putting to interested clubs.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
