Sylvia's was as you said "a few years ago"... At the time the rules were less about head high contact and you could've run him over (or any Dees player for that matter) with a bus on the field and the umps would've called play on.

Actually, if you look at the footage his shoulder does hit Lynch's head. The real question is whether they regard it as a bump or incidental contact while they are all going for the ball. Of course, going for the ball isn't a defence according to the Ziebel suspension.

Viney was tracking the ball back, and simply braced for impact.

His feet didn't leave the ground, and contact was unavoidable.

And the broken jaw appears to be on the RHS from impact with Georgio's head.

When you look at the slo-mo he is going to come under sever scrutiny. Hate to say it but the MRP after reviewing Nat Fyfe's shirt front on Rischetelli said if you chose to bump and the opponent receives contact to the head than you face the consequences.

The only way out is if tackling was not an option, Georgiou is laying a tackle as Lynch gathers the ball, at this point Viney turns and braces for impact, he keeps the shoulder in tight. At speed not much in it looks like a 3 way clash but when you slow it down JV could be in for some time off. Accidental contact to the head, high impact.

I hope he gets cleared but it will be severely scrutinised

I would say a lot depends on whether they view his action as a deliberate bump or bracing for the impact while going for the ball. As Stated above, they take the line that if a player chooses to bump and an injury results they will be suspended, so if they look at it from that side he may be in strife. If you watch the footage, he turns and braces a few steps before impact, so in slow motion it looks pretty premeditated and he certainly hist Lynch high with his shoulder. At full speed it looks a lot better for him because you can see the speed at which they are moving and how little time he had to register that the collision was coming and react.

I would say that if he played for a top side there would be nothing to worry about, but the tribunal has a history of coming down hard on players from the "weaker" clubs, also known as easy targets. Think back to Jack Zeibel getting three weeks for a totally legal attempt at the ball and Trengove's perfect tackle on Dangerfield which also copped three weeks. Based on that record I have a sad suspicion that they will look at this as an opportunity to show that they are coming down hard on dangerous play and will try to throw the book at him.

Look at the contact paused and you will see that the 195cms Lynch, drops lower at the moment of contact, after being pushed forward into Viney, bending his knees, and altering the position he would have been bumped. Without the push or Lynch lowering his height the bump is the standard shoulder to shoulder.

The problem here is that another player has pushed Lynch forward and Lynch himself has lowered his height. Neither of these is the fault of the player bumping.
