Whats Petracca like defensively? It is the defensive side which often undoes players.

Again, with a willingness to learn and desire to become the best player possible, things like that are secondary when it comes to assessing a player.

I'm not saying they should be completely disregarded, but if you hear Christian speak, you'll be filled with confidence knowing that his attitude toward improving himself as a player is already at a professional level.

It's the same as Jack Viney's 'tude.

Theres 2 options for Malceski/Frawley/Compo picks as i See it

1. Sydney play nice with Malceski and let his contract expire- Delisted free agent similar to Cross situation

2. Sydney play nice with us and we trade him for Pick 3000 - Similar to Rodan/Morton

We choose to sign him as a Free Agent then we will get around 3rd round for Frawley if he decides to leave, which is hardly a fair trade

Not that bloody good?

Ahhh Machsy.

Hilarious that you think you're now an expert on Petracca when I was pumping him up around the championships, and I was hardly the first.

Have you watched a couple of replays and think you're the now the resident expert?

Well done Steve.

His tank is not there yet, and testing might show he has the tank of a Ziebell, Petrenko or Dustin Martin.

I'm not talking about work ethic, I'm talking about his predisposed genetic makeup that will determine the ceiling of his potential.

That could make him a player that can only impact in bursts.

It's currently an unknown.

He's also strong in a lot of areas, but far from perfect.

And if you're absolutely convinced he's as good as you're making out, then we're going to need pick 1.

Yep - players at top clubs who cannot quite get a regular game.

If Roos can pick them like he did for the Swans I will be happy.

By the way - it kills me to watch Ollie Wines play - why oh why didn't the Dees take him and not Jimmy Toumpas - surely Roosy cannot believe it either.

^ nobody can believe it foss! one of the most incompetent drafting decisions ever.

Yep Sweet Dee - it was sooooo bad - had to be because there were plenty of other Dees shockers in the last 2 - 3 years - but the Wines one outdoes them all and that is really saying something.

4 points to tick off before taking anyone:

  1. Have to be tall - no midgets.
  2. Have to be strong.
  3. Have to be able to run all day.
  4. Have to have ability

(I know I am not asking for much - but I just look at Freo's midfielders - their size - and the Doggies have some really good young ones - Hawks etc. etc.).

The hype on Petracca is getting out of hand!

He's not that bloody good.

lol... This constant yearly hype of new draftees is becoming embarassing and boring... Every year we hear about these kids, who will be the next Wayne Carey or Chris Judd... Yet every year, hardly any of the hyped up teens actually make an impacted... Pfft... How many next Wayne Carey's can there really be...

I recall an explosive forward come midfield juggernaut that our recruiting manager at the time told me was the most competitive beast he had ever seen after we picked him up with our first round pick…….

I spoke to a prominent player manager who informed me I should be quite confident of seeing one of Treloar or Shiel at the Dees next year.

Treloar is contracted but apparently keen to look at opportunities elsewhere and they Giants have decided to make keeping Cameron, Patton and Boyd together, their priority. This means they'll certainly have to concede something in the midfield.

Shiel won't be there next year, wants out and not well liked around the club anyway.

On that basis, assuming we finish where we are now, Frawley leaves and we get pick 4 as compensation, what do we think of the following:

Pick 3 and Blease OR Tapscott (both former 1st rounders) to GWS
For
Treloar and Shiel (alternative for GWS – blow up you salary cap trying to hold onto Treloar and lose 1 of their key talls which are harder to replace).
Next year's midfield stocks:
  • N Jones
  • Vince
  • Tyson
  • Cross
  • Viney
  • Treloar
  • Shiel
  • Salem
  • Trengove
  • Toumpas
  • Pick 4 (priority pick having traded pick 3 to GWS… Brayshaw?)
  • GWS most likely use pick 3 to get Petracca as a replacement mid.

I think if GWS think they'll lose both players next year, we could get Shiel and Treloar for picks 3 & 4. That's feasible, IMO.

True. It's annoying seeing supporters moan about us taking Toumpas instead of Wines. Fact is Toumpas was better than Wines at under age level, and 18/18 recruiters would've picked him over Wines.

Macrae is better than both of them comfortably at this stage. He's averaging 27 disposals, 5th highest total disposals in the entire league ahead of guys like Pendlebury, Cotchin, Boak, Selwood, Martin. He has had an incredible year and is head and shoulders above everyone else from that draft. Would've been nice to land him...

Is it a "fact" that 18/18 recruiters would've picked him over Wines, hmm in your opinion. I doubt anyone in need of a tough as nails inside mid would have recruited him over Wines, and MFC 2012 were in dire need of inside grunt.

Toumpas may very well turn out to be a great player, but the fact still remains- for what we needed at the time, we missed out on a genuine 10 year beauty, meanwhile out pick 3 is languishing in the VFL- that's a fact!

Sweet Dee have we met??

I am the one and only Picket Fence!

Like what you have got to say... BUT be careful...

There are many here who will fight you tooth and nail for these utterances!

So Beware!

Okay, let's not derail another thread, with the Wines debate.

Meanwhile, who would you take, spirit, with our other pick if we used our Frawley compo on Shiel ? Not disagreeing with you. Just interested.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
