Changes for Gold Coast Round 5

Terlich has been good defensively one on one and we will need a player who can do similiar . Physical able to win a contest and break away to intercept . When Roos says Terlichs been great this year he is not joking . He was on saturday , won some great battles out on the wing half back flank . Ocassional turnover but its decision making more than skill error. Clisby may come in id like to see Jetta .

Blease in for Terlich if he is injured

Wouldnt consider any other changes. Let the winning team roll on and only make changes when necessary

It isnt necessary .

Was VERY impressed by Kent's game, thought he was one of the only shining lights in the first quarter!

My problem at the moment is that, unless Toumpas or Trengove find some speed or Blease finds a tank, no-one can come in for Bail, that's what I meant by "I just have to suck it in until we see some depth in this shallow list of ours."

Though if I have to give a name to satisfy your answer I'll say Hogan, just because I can't wait to see him play!

Bail had a great game why do you want to drop him?

Bail is a really intelligent runner, as well as being a good runner in the athletic sense of combining pace and endurance. He ran to exactly the right place with exactly the right timing and at top speed past Dawes, and just trusted that Dawes would somehow get it to him. It was a quality running goal which was so well done (by al concerned) that it was made to look easy. If Bail hadn't run the right place, Dawes would have looked stupid for not trying to grab it.

Bail also found a lot of space inside 50 for his other goal. But he should have had 4 this week, and should have had 4 against the Saints.

He is really talented in term of getting himself into such good places. He just really needs to work on his disposal though; otherwise he's just another runner.

He also produced 10 tackles and pressured his opponent all day

No changes except for injury. Roos has to stick to his guns on earning a place and using Casey to develop players.

Both Toump and Trenners need to spend more time working on their game away from the spotlight.

We wont see Salem until well into the second half of the season.

Anyone know how Garland went?

Terlich's errors gave Carlton 2 goals in the first quarter. First one, turnover by kicking directly to a Carlton player and second, falling over at the crucial moment to give his opponent an easy goal.

No one dispute's Terlich's attack on the footy but he needs to stop making dumb decisions and errors.

Gold Coast are a lot faster than us. I don't think we can bring in Toumpas or Trengove at this time.

the master - I think Trengove is at Casey to try and undo some of Neeld's handy work. Ie. his efforts to make him more defensive have turned him into a reactor (and a slow one at that) rather than an initiator. I think we should we should set up a fund to offer a reward to anyone that can find Trengove's speed.

Clisby in for mine and either Evans or Blease as sub.

Garland and Jamar straight in.

This game is a must win. When was the last back to back we had??

I don't see any great advantage in Jamar atm. He will slow the side down and I do not consider him a good tap ruckman because he consistently directs the ball to his feet.

Garland is likely still underdone but I agree he will bolster (and general) our defence.

I think thats not too far off my future best 22 - I might move Dunn back and replace Pedersen with Hogan, replace Georgiou with Garland, replace Spencer with a fit and firing/developing Gawn and replace Bail with an improved Trengove/Michie.

B - Lynden Dunn - Tom McDonald - Jeremy Howe

HB - Jack Grimes - Colin Garland - Daniel Cross

C - Jack Watts - Dom Tyson - Bernie Vince

Sub - Blease

As kids develop you could add the likes of Toumpas, Salem etc.

Howe and Frawley have the ability to switch around and annoy the opposition. This could be a key to our future - flexibility just keep bothering the opposition (Watts is another who can go forward or back/Gawn ruck and forward etc.)

Interesting the number of posters who see Garland coming in for Georgiou. I see that as unlikely. If Garland were to come back next week, I would have thought he'd take Howe's place in the backline with Howe moving to the wing and Evans being the unlucky midfielder who makes way.

However, I don't expect Garland to play and would expect a half back VFL defender to take Terlich's place. Whether that should be Clisby, Toumpas, Nicholson or Blease I don't know. I'll read Brad Miller's VFL reviews with interest. Two of the only three players he commented on last week without any negative critiquing regarding fitness, disposal or touch made it into the squad (McKenzie and Nicholson).

Yes I also doubt he will come straight in - should have at least 1 game at Casey (maybe 60-70% game time)

I didn't say we should drop him, just that I'm not sold on him yet. He's been there for five years and aside from the match versus Carlton has frustrated me through every single one of his appearances.

Like I said there is no one to come in and replace him right now but if we ever had a full list he would not be in my best 22.

Like for like, it just must be Clisby. He was good last year, and is in Casey's best 2 weeks running. Otherwise, there won't be any changes, as the only other who must come in is Garland, and he'll play a full game at Casey this week. And for those who think Georgiou will go out for Garland, unless he has a stinker against GCS, he's gonna stay, and should. Pederson will go.

You banged on in the McKenzie thread about how he smashed Ablett, how underrated he is.....yet in your team he starts on the bench. Is Ablett starting on the bench?

Jamar is a no for me, he needs to put his abilities on show in the vfl first. Who knows where he's at, when did he last play? lol
I like spencer as the main man and then pederson helping out. Pedo is not that tall but geez he puts up a good contest even against guys that are significantly taller.

Having said that if Gawn were ready and had a run in vfl already, we could play two ruckmen. Problem being neither of them can rest forward yet - i don think anyway.

And i guess thats where jamar can provide a contest - in the forward line. Which might be necessary given suns tall fwds, frawley may have to go down back on s.day or one of the others.

Sorry post is al over the shop.

I disagree, Spencer does heaps more.

If there was leadership shown then Jake Spencer showed much of it, getting in and fighting for the ball and clearing pathways for midfielders.

For a rover(excuse my last century terms) to see your ruckman get down and dirty, is very inspirational.

Bail is in mine until JKH, Kent, Evans, Blease or Toumpas go past him. We simply don't have anyone else at half forward who runs out a full game, always leads to the right spots, lays defensive tackles and regularly has shots on goal (even if Bail misses a lot).

I'm hoping by next year JKH and Kent are clearly above Bail but it will probably take them at least another preseason as well as however many games they can play this year.

My thinking on Bail is that his bad attributes (mainly kicking) might well cost him being a regular player (or even on the list) of a top 4 club, but his good attributes in his run, pace, hardness, tackling would probably have him able to slide in to a top 4 team and contribute a lot. There's very little gap between Bail and guys like Puopolo or Matt De Boer who played in the grand final last year.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
