Never have I seen a poster so obsessed with draft picks. I'm starting to believe "Olisik" is either Cameron Schwab or Cuddles, just can't work out which yet (probably leaning toward the latter at this stage).

We are in a draft regulated sport.

Teams build their teams largely from the draft.

The draft acts as a form of equalisation.

We are a bad team.

We are going to get preferential treatment in the draft because of how poor we are.

That treatment will include (most likely) a top 3 pick.

Teams that are consistently bad can receive extra preferential treatment.

We have been consistently bad.

We agreed to the rules as we continue in the league - I don't have a 'handout mentality' simply because I want the rules of equalisation to be enforced consistently.

Scully and Strauss are our only Priority Picks. They weren't great picks.

It's sad we have to have this argument again so early 'P-man'. I think we should just read our posts from last year rather than repeat our arguments. We didn't get one then and it looks like we are not in a great position.

Let me just say this, Hawthorn and Collingwood's premierships were built on the back of PP's, Geelong's on previous Father/Son rules. They got a leg up.

I disagree, they were built on the back of boardroom competency, trust in the coaching staff and a system where development wasn't compromised for the sake of a headline.

We could have the first 20 picks in this draft. It doesn't matter who we draft, what number they are picked or where they are from, if we don't develop them right with no pressure or expectation, then we won't see the best of them. It still mystifies me as to why people compare current players we drafted to ones we missed out, for example wines, Dunstan fyfe etc. we would have messed the development of pendlebury, franklin, Judd - hell I'll even go back to Leigh Matthews or Robbie flower.

This is what gives me confidence now, that we have the right people in place to turn that around. I just hope it isn't too late for players like watts, trengove, grimes and the like. We just need to face the fact that we are probably going to trade early picks away and hope to trade in more players in the 21-25 demographic. Oh, I might add keeping hogan for his entire career. Some kids just have an attitude that will ensure they don't fail, and he is one.

We have absolutely no control over the system of draft assistance and the AFL seems to be constantly changing ground over the subject anyway.

The greatest danger however, is to get too wrapped up in the concept at this early stage of the year. If we can get over our current injury cycle to our big men and Paul Roos' game plan begins to sink in, we can still show sufficient improvement as to not warrant talking about such things.

I think it was 2008, hardwick in his first year as coach, they started 0-9 and everyone was wondering what he was trying to do. By the time he finally got a few players back, as well as the youngsters understanding what he was after, I think they won 6 games in the last half of the year. Sure I'm not saying we will, I'm saying that if our players keep getting told they "can" win and they "can" play afl, sooner or later they will start to believe it too.

IF we get more top end picks as it is looking at the minute i reckon we need to go to the draft with a narrow focus.

if we go for mids they must tackle and win the contested ball, the need to be ready to go impact players, better to get a side of those and add outside types later.

We only got two priority picks. The first one we selected Blease (stuff up) and the second we selected Scully (who left for one of the expansion clubs for a bucket full of the AFL's cash). Our recent picks have been heavily diluted by the compromised drafts.

The AFL is now more uneven than the EPL and promoting the game as 'Anything's Possible' should be investigated by the ACCC for misleading and deceptive advertising.

We had 3 drafts to nail it, 2007, 2008 & 2009 before the drafts were severley compromised. Fact is, we fcuked our chance up by picking spuds. You could argue to some degree that the 2009 draft was compromised in our favour - 4 picks in the top 18 - including the number 1 & 2 picks, with just two of those players left on our list, and both those not in the senior team. If any club/s have been disadvantged by bottoming out at the wrong time, it'd be St Kilda and Brisbane.

There is absolutely no excuse for us being in the position that we are currently in. We can't blame the AFL or any other external body. We have to take 100% responsibility for poor decisions made during this time. We can whinge about the AFL gifting GWS with our former number 1 pick, but gee, they looked after us in regards to compensation. It's too early to tell if we are the winners from all that - given our recent history I wouldn't be surprised if we lost out of it all. However, if it turns out we won from it, it'll prove to me that we may have turned a corner.

I want to see the club compete and win some games and have a better 2nd half of the season and take some momentum into next year.

Amazingly, Olisik, players like Bail, Terlich and Nicholson were actually picked up using draft picks.

Players like Vince and Tyson were brought to the club via trade.

Which players have made the biggest impact so far?

If we end up with Pick 1, it would take rare circumstances to even consider trading it. If we end up with 1&2 (because of Frawley's possible/likely departure), you keep pick 1, and possible look at a trade with pick 2, similar to the deal we did last year with GWS/Tyson/Salem.

Given you have clearly witnessed the last 7 years, like I have, you would see the need to find a balance of bringing kids in as well as experience. The important part is getting "good" experienced players, not hacks that are in the twilight of their careers and playing a large amount of reserves footy at their current club.

I agree all the way with this...We had numerous chances to get it right under the previous regime and in fact the problems got worse. Some visible to us the supporter and others concealed

That is why now we need to recruit "ready made" players rather than 17-18 year olds so the public has a team to watch...The 5 year plan can no longer be an option...

I'd imagine that's how the AFL would feel WYL, hence any priority pick we receive should come with the condition that it has to be on-traded for a player.

Us using a potential prioirty pick on a freshy would see 5/8ths of f-all improvement in 2015. There aren't many trades that invovled a Top 20 pick that haven't improved the side that received the player. We traded Pick 12 for Clark, who when he played, immediately improved our side.

The AFL need us to improve. We need us to improve. Time is ticking.

They start pushing their agenda, which is a reaction from opposition supporters.

They will get their reaction, they'll get it from opposition clubs, then the AFL will bend to their desires.

All the AFL care about are GWS and GC, this is because Vlad is all about himself and his legacy.
