Demons could get priority pick

Yay more picks. Bloody hell after 3 weeks the talk of draft picks is coming around again. We need to win a couple of games in a row to remove the idea of gaining false hope through more draft picks.

Not spending the year hoping we finish last again thanks.

Hope fully second half of the year we can win some games, and show some improvement.

Its winning culture we need to develop.

Let's be honest, the draft has been compromised enough over the past five years. Looking at it objectively, a priority pick should be awarded for us to use at the start of the second round, not the first...we don't deserve picks 1,2 and 3 just because our recruiting has been terrible. So, if we lost Frawley, we would get 1, 2, 19 (priority) and 20. I think that is more than generous. 1,2 and 3 is just ridiculous.

If things keep up I don't see how they wouldn't grant us one. Especially having lost Clark and considering our performances over recent seasons the AFL would have to grant us one under exceptional circumstances. Of course I'd prefer we didn't need it and can improve in the back end of the season but if we continue to play poorly and win less than 4 games, well the record will speak for itself.

No remember the argument against us last year getting any help, it is all our own fault, we don't deserve any help.

In the spirit of bargaining, I say we ask for last year's priority pick they denied us as well and go for picks 1, 2, 3 and 4.

We should've got a PP last year, we should get one this year.

If we don't - then we'll stay near the bottom.

The AFL just needs to work out whether MFC spending a decade at the bottom is good for the league.

Ideally, we end up with 1,2,3, we really need that as well.

Obviously some of that hinges on Frawley.

In the 7 year period 1990-96, Fitzroy won 38 games in total (3 wins in total in their last two seasons). They had a best finish of 10th, in a then 14 team competition. In the 7 year period 2007-13, Melbourne has won 34 games and had 2 draws, with a highest finish of 12th in a then 16 team competition. If we don't get a priority pick then it would be difficult to see them ever being handed out again. Irrespective of who is at fault or how poorly we have recruited or developed, it is clear we are challenging all sorts of VFL/AFL records for poor performance.

Hey, don't get too carried away folks. Re a pp the article quotes:

''...AFL football operations manager Mark Evans would not debate hypotheticals, but indicated a special assistance selection, if awarded, would not fall in the first round. The likely spot would be ahead of the second round, thwarting the dream scenario...'

If we use our picks like we should, then it should be our last fix.

We now have the right teachers, there are no excuses, but IMO we do need picks.

We should've got a PP last year, we should get one this year.

I agree KDA. we should get a PP. we should have had one last year. we'll end up trading it, or an early pick for a mature player, + possibly a laterpick.

if we don't we may end up losing more players in coming years & we'll be the first Club to prove why free agency is bad for the competition.

No remember the argument against us last year getting any help, it is all our own fault, we don't deserve any help.

Viscount ??? I always saw you as an Earle, Hoody ?

what about Gillard, Baroness 'G' ? ;)

If frawley leaves and we get a pick after our first round it would be considered a priority pick but if he doesn't leave then we may get a priority pick after first round

Sadly if frawley leaves we won't get what should occur and that's reality because the afl is all about perception not fairness

No, it doesn't work like that.

If Frawley leaves we should get a pick between 2-4, depending where we finish on the ladder.

But, that is separate to the AFL allocating us a PP, which should also be between pick 2-4.

If Frawley does leave, his absence is worth every bit of a 2-4 pick. We do take Frawley for granted.

But, then comes the issue of is Frawley worth 800k, I'd say no.. We could get a younger, better player for that coin.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
