Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Surely we cant give Postman Pat another go -- We should not accept his output from an AFL listed player. This is a player who through circumstance has been given the opportunity to grab an AFL forwards position by the scruff of the neck and say this is my dream and I will not let it go by at least tackling hard , chasing and showing some desperation.
6 Handballs , 2 kicks , 1 mark & 3 tackles in his last 2 games is the output we received ( That's an average midfielders 1/4 time stats)

Postman Pat has failed the litmus test and a delisting beckons.

An unfit Jamar resting in the forward 50 would offer me more hope than Postman Pat

Roos spoke at the weekend on SEN pre-game about games at Casey being about 'development' and shouldn't be confused with 'punishment for poor form' (not his words, by the way. Mine summarising what he said). That suggests to me that players may go up and down as part of their development. Whether that's because of fitness or to practise a particular aspect of their play, I don't know. But he's very keen on the promotion of the idea that Casey is about development.

I think I know what Roos is trying to get at with Casey. Development against smaller bodies. A chance to get a W and not the endless L's playing at the MFC. A chance to hone their skills without being destroyed across the ground. We've thrown our draftees to the wolves and Roos is trying to correct this. I support the move fully.

Part of the reason the elite teams stay so successful is because their draftees are forced to spend a few years developing at VFL level before they go near the AFL. We throw them under the bus and look dumbfounded when they don't bring instant success at AFL level.

And if we have injuries?

Terrible plan.

Fellow DL's, based on the last few seasons, I have a feeling we're just rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic...ie. doing something pointless or insignificant that will soon be overtaken by events, or that contributes nothing to the solution of a current problem.

Jack Fitzpatrick.

Round 1 vs St Kilda (ES) 4 disposals 2 marks 1 tackle concussed subbed out at half time.

Round 2 vs West Coast (MCG) 4 disposals (4 handballs ) 0 marks 2 tackles subbed out?

Round 3vs GWS (SPO) 4 disposals 2 marks 1 tackle full game

Is there anyone who thinks he should be replaced by a player short or tall.

He is an example of why our club is such a basket case, Jack has had all pre season to prepare himself for the start of the season, and he puts out 12 disposals and 4 marks in 3 games.

If Paul Roos doesn't drop Fitz to Casey then I will be even more concerned about the situation the club is in.

I'd go as far as saying they stay there until they're too good to ignore, we should have players in the 1's that are desperate to hole their spot, not giving us reasons to drop them

Exactly, that's what I meant by made to understand. Players have been gifted games for years, some players still think this is the case.

you're surprised?

No, not really.. I've seen enough limp-wristed, one-armed tackles, half-ar*ed chases and lack of urgency around the contest to know what to expect by now.

I guess I hoped / anticipated that Watts and others would - if nothing else - be willing to run through walls for Roos.

Instead, there's probably barely a dozen players who play with that desperation and intensity throughout the game. The rest seem as uninterested as ever.

Pretty sure it’s due to structure and not form - if he can just bring the ball to ground then he is giving other forwards a chance (instead of always being outnumbered/muscled).

We all know he can provide more than he has and as mentioned - concussion and rain do not help.

I believe Fitzy went a lot closer to quarter time in round 1 and then in round 2 he didn't last too long in to the third quarter. In fairness to him he played 1 overall game in the first 2 weeks. Then last week it was pouring with rain. The GWS version of him (Giles) had plenty more hit outs but had all of 8 touches and no scores despite playing on Pedersen.

I don't expect much from him but it's almost to the stage with replacements that he may as well stay in. He takes the second ruck job and therefore gives Spencer a chop out and a tall defender stands him letting the other forwards - Frawley and Dunn possibly getting smaller defenders.

I would be tempted to bring in another small (there are no other talls) but if we bring in guys like Clisby, McKenzle and Blease who else do you bring in? Nicholson? A reprieve to either Toumpas, Trengove or Michie before they've earned it?

I'd monitor him at training and if he's training hard and looking more competent in basic skills then I'd probably give him another shot. He does have some talent and it would be nice to get his season on track now rather than having him back in the VFL and no second ruck/forward option.

With Pedersen down back the question would be what to do with the second ruck spot anyway if it's not Fitzpatrick. Personally I'd go back to a Neil Craig tactic and try Watts in the ruck for 5 minutes a quarter

The good news is that we are back at the MCG and playing a team that is also 0-3.

The Blues also have their share of injuries with Kreuzer and Judd out.

Brocky is unlikely to get back in to torment us this week, but bruise-free Robbo will be keen to again make us look insipid.

Do people not comprehend the state of the Melbourne situation. Carlton is only near us on the ladder because you cant put a 12inch gap between 17th and 18th positions when you print the ladder in the paper. MFC is not in the same LEAGUE as Carlton or anyone else for that matter. Stop kidding yourself. If Melbourne loses by less than 10 goals Ill be suprised. MFC list is VFL standard.

Have a look at Roos' presser today. He explained his spray to Terlich but spoke very highly of his performances as a whole so far. He almost certainly won't be dropped, in fact he seems to have a fan in Roos.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer.
