SMALL MERCIES - POST MATCH DISCUSSION

I've supported this club for 55 years. This is the lowest point ever. The players are an utter disgrace. Nathan Jones, Daniel Cross were the only ones who put in a proper effort today. Poor Jobes was smashed in the face early and did not gave his best day. The rest showed nothing.

And you notice noone retaliated when Jones was down or even went up to help him to his feet.

Not sure even having our key position players would make a difference if our runners can't hit a target. It was good to see Roos give Terlich a spray about his disposal - too often it goes unaddressed - at least in view of the fans

Easy target? I'm aware Roos previously got rid of Terlich from the Swans, I'd like to see him give a spray like that to Watts, Howe or Grimes.

Frawley can take off at the end of this season for all I care. That last quarter goal was all about him, his celebration and his teammates celebration showed that. The majority of this group of players has NFI about what team sport is.

Seriously you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. They players went to congratulate him because he kicked an important goal and was fired up, if they didn't then we would've accused them of not looking out for their mate.

I don't believe a serial offender is an easy target. There has to be accountability

Too many sacred cows for too long at MFC. Terlich is an easy target because he is a second year player who struggles at AFL level, probably wouldn't get on another list if we delisted him. Give that kind of spray to Howe, Grimes or Watts someone who truly deserves it due to their "effort" rather than execution and who has something more to get out of themselves that they haven't to date.

so. should we follow north or the doggies?

Leaning towards doggies....

Neither b we ALL need to stick fat with the Dees.

I know its hard and frustrating but the tide will turn.

It has to what goes around comes around. That's what I keep telling myself and my kids anyway.

if thats the case we deserve a decade of dominance - 8 years of prelim finals and a shedload of flags.

He did drop Jimmy and JT this week, not a bad start.

What upset me was that GWS players and it was the younger players, targetted our players and we did absolutely nothing about it. The only one I saw have a go back was Viney.

That is just simply pathetic and inexcusable.

That attitude was then translated to the tackles where they absolutely killed us.

It's weak as [censored] and one thing that is truly inexcusable from our mentally weak players.

Tell em what I said that was wrong?

I am being a realist, but anyway enjoy living in fantasy land I am sure its lovely there

I'm with you HH, sat with 3 mates today to watch the gamey, I'm the only Dees supporter and one of them said with 10 mins left, "seriously man, would you be so opposed to being the Tassie Demons? Imagine the concessions you'd get from the afl"

Got me thinking, we are actually an irrelevance, people pity us and when I heard Wayne Carey mock us during the North/Port game on MMM, I realised that the pity is now turning into scorn...what a pathetic rabble of a club we are and it's time we took stock and considered the alternatives my friends

That's because we have no heavy hitters with mongrel in the team Red. Jones boy goes at it pretty and i'll give pencil his dues as he hits pretty hard at the contest, but they're the exception. No one else worries the opposition physically. In addition we don't worry them in the skills department much either. It's a free kick for most clubs when they play us. They can bully us on the ground and they know there'll be no one coming back at them and they'll win as well.

With Dawes weeks away, there's also very few leaders out there other than Jones and maybe Cross at this point. Easy pickings Red.

What i would give to have Balls, Yeater, Sean Wight and Crosswell running around out there as well as big Carl in the ruck. Fidge and Stinger off the bench wouldn't hurt either. Teams would at least fear and respect us a little, even if we were getting beat.

I don't believe so, Pates but I respect yours and others take on it.

I just felt like it was "hey Chip kicked a goal which is a big deal because it's pretty rare," as opposed to "righto boys, we're in this just need to keep pushing." As it turned out, the game effectively ended after that goal.

I want Nathan Jones moved out of the centre square. We are getting smashed in the midfield and we need change in there. Play him on the wing or half backline.

Jack Grimes..did anyone notice that last goal by Josh Kelly how Grimes was his opponent and just drifted off him ball watching a Kelly had all the time in the world to finish the goal. Jack had a terrible game today and is so busy patting people on the back all the time instead of actually getting the ball and putting his body on the line.

Matt Jones needs to watch his disposal and turnovers.

Lastly, when we kick in from goal we actually need a plan. Terlich keeps on kicking the ball to our worst players and to the oppositions best players. It's is [censored] [censored] stupidity.

Scary.

Miss it like crazy ....especially in the cauldron at Windy Hill and Pie Park. Good times, Standing on empty 6 packs with the plastic tied back over to see over the heads of the older blokes in front lol.

I forgot two other classics, Ray "Biffo" Biffen and Mark "jacko" Jackson. Although i doubt either of them would get much game time with today's rules and tribunal outcomes. The Jacko days, now they were scary lol.

I think that's what everybody has been saying

No, it isn't.

Reading the hand-wringing on here every week; it's like this place has a collective amnesia of the ills of the list and the performance of the players we do have.

We have a bad list - and some of the players I would consider 'talented' are horribly out of form, battling career defining injuries, or have one major aspect of their game/career that has stunted that talent playing for this club.

How often can you be appalled? Shocked at the result? Tired of the performance?

I suppose it is a good thing that we 'expect more' but conclusions have been reached.

We are a bad team.

It's time to be less shocked.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
