NAB Challenge 1 - Richmond v Melbourne

So what if it does OD, will you be disappointed?

Strange question Saty.

Of course not.

Changes since last year are three better midfielders, Garland not playing and probably the worse forward line we have fielded since 2012.

We have not beaten Richmond for some time and they played finals last year.

We all want and hope we will win tonight but do really think we will?

A slight change on D26 by naming Lyden as an interchange player for this particular match. He is one of the few who can go forward or back wherever there is a need.

B: Alexis Georgiou James Frawley Mitch Clisby

HB: Jack Grimes Tom McDonald Dean Terlich

C: Jack Watts Nathan Jones Bernie Vince

HF: Jimmy Toumpas Cameron Pedersen Sam Blease

F: Max King Jeremy Howe Jay Kennedy-Harris

R: Jake Spencer Dom Tyson Jack Trengove

I: Daniel Cross Viv Michie Lynden Dunn James Strauss

S: Michael Evans Matt Jones

there ya go, close to what I reckon I'd do as well.

Definately like Georgio's aggression in the pocket, to have a look at him. I want to start Dunn, maybe as defensive half forward pushing up to help the midfield. I like clisby's run from the back.

F/B: Georgiou Frawley Terlich

H/B: Grimes McDonald Blease

C/L: Watts nJones Tyson

H/F: Trengove Dunn Evans

F/F: Howe Pedersen King

Foll: Spencer Vince Cross

Int: from: Clisby, mJones, jK-H, Michie, McKenzie, Strauss, Toumpas

Subs/Emer from: Bail, Barry, Byrnes, Nicholson

I am not so pessimistic - hope springs eternal.

Remember, OD, reality and pragmatism are your enemies. Blind faith and a sheer pig headed ignorance to face the facts on the ground, that's the way to go!

I tell you what, I can't bloody wait to see my footy team play tonight after what feels like a really long off-season.

Really looking forward to seeing our new look midfield. Obviously it will take time for them to gel and we won't be able to find out the full extent of how they're tracking until they have our forward line to kick it to.

Would be great to see the Hogan, Clark and Dawes in action up forward and obviously without them we'll struggle to kick a winning score just like Hawthorn would struggle to win without Roughead, Gunston and Hale.

It's not about winning tonight though. I just want to see every one of our boys give it their all and look like they want to be out there.

Go Dees!

We will not only win OD - we will do it easily. I've had the word from on high that we've got this. Trust in the big fella upstairs. He might be surrounded by Saints but he's a Demon at heart. Told me he's held them back all these years to reward the truly faithful like me when we enter into a ten year period of glorious domination. Do yourself a favour and get on board. You'd better be wearing the colours when you turn up at the pearly gates my friend.

Everyone should go in with low expectations of the scoreboard. It will mitigate any disappointment.

My eyes will be on the mids and the way they go about it.

Forward line looks to lack a little grunt, but its just a practice game. .

Always interesting to see who will announce themselves .

Competition for a game increased over last year, younger players like Toumpas , Jones, Clisby etc have a year and further pre season under their belt, plus Tyson, Cross, Minchie and Vince are now added to the mix.

Chuck in some total unknowns in Georgio, King and JKH, sit back and wait for the ride.

Looking forward to seeing a bit of our future game style and who puts their hand up.

Think we might uncover a couple. Not going to commit suicide if we lose. I watched Brisbane last night.

Not long to wait now. Scial club bar opens soon so I can have a couple of frothies before the game.

I have a good feeling that no nay sayer and harbinger of doom on this site can diminish. I have recorded the game on IQ in anticipation of watching a stellar win when I get home.

Wouldn't mind seeing Dunn play forward to give us an extra target,

Howe Dunn Blease

King Pederson kennedy-harris

I'd like to see him play where he fits in the new game plan!

The forward line is weak but defensively we look good.

Dunn is a chance for a couple of super goals.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
