But how can anyone predict change before we see some on field improvement

Is that a serious question? We've gone from a coach who will go down as one of the worst of all time, to a proven coach renowned for getting through to players. It's not much of a stretch to expect and predict change.

I am sure it was a serious question, because he was probably sucked in by Neeld's bs and expected change and now takes a point of view that anything is possible and will wait until round 1 because then we will all know if these blokes are serious or not.

PREDICTED LADDER AFTER ROUND 5

5-0 Hawthorn

5-0 Sydney

4-1 West Coast

4-1 North Melbourne

4-1 Richmond

4-1 Geelong

3-2 Fremantle

3-2 Carlton

--------------------

2-3 Adelaide

2-3 Essendon

2-3 Port Adelaide

2-3 Gold Coast

2-3 St Kilda

1-4 Collingwood

1-4 W Bulldogs

1-4 GWS

0-5 Melbourne

0-5 Brisbane Lions

That's incredible because I've got Melbourne on top at the end of round 5 - ahead of Hawthorn by percentage.

Could not have put it better. Three is realistic (well maybe a touch of optimism)

Three isn't optimistic > four is optimistic!

Its a serious question. What's our combined record in the first five games since 2007? Probably about 5 wins 30 losses?

Or our first round record since then? 1 draw?

Our new additions are still mainly kids (Hogan, Tyson, Michie, Salem). Our ready to go additions are Cross (hardly a game winner) and the decent but hardly remarkable Vince.

Not to mention no matter how good a coach Roos is we were 2-20 last year with a percentage of 54. I don't think Roos himself expects big changes right away regarding wins. In that means he'll focus on performance, getting that percentage above 80 and then worry about away wins and wins at Etihad.

I expect an improvement and a percentage of 75 if not 85 but I can't predict when that will translate to wins. Not to mention that the expansion teams, Carlton and West Coast are 4 of the more unpredictable teams in the comp.

Fair arguements there Master....i think some people are forgetting (and i completely understand why) how absolutely putrid and uncompetitive we have been in the last 7 years...(2010 had its moments...but even that had shocking moments)

That said i have total confidence Roos can turn this side around & quickly, if the players switch on & realize it is them who make the change.

I love how, all of a sudden, we'll be 4-1

Seriously?

Terrible in 2012 and 2013, recruits that can't get on the park and a new coach will not translate to a 3-2 or 4-1 or 5-0.....more like 0-5.

Oh....and those who think that beating West Coast is doable, rethink your narrative.

WYL, I haven't forgotten...

West Coast had a bad year last year, will they jump back up or is it a sign of things to come. Cox & Glass getting towards the end no Kerr (and he is a big loss). Maybe Daniher had taken his mojo to WC, one good year, one bad. If so they are due a good year although he is not there this year, what happened when he left us? one terrible year.

less than a month to the nab cup, dawes, clark, Hogan, viney under injury clouds, have I left anyone out? Recent record appalling, expect to see improvement but not a lot.

Where have you been Lord? Doing one of those 40 days and 40 nights desert tours?

Anyway glad for your guidance - I'm a reformed character for it.

Understand where you're coming from, but they still have a more stable, dominant midfield, two power forwards and a great defence.

I read the article...and quite frankly its worthless shlt.

So much is ignored as to make the author a complete and ignorant fwit

I used to read such predictions --- now I don't bother. Most of them talk either rubbish or cliches (or both) and end up with a minor permutation of the previous year's results. Nothing to see here!

Midfield without Kerr, and Cox on the way out, other mids a bit slow...I've seen their defence crumble under pressure a few times over the last few years, Glass in his last year? One power forward in Kennedy, who's the other? Not Darling, he's a 3rd tall and WC people I know wanted him dropped last year.

At this time of the year it's way to hard to gauge any club including ours but over the last few years we've had the surprise rise and fall of WC & Adelaide and rise and maybe fall of Port. This time last year WC were considered favourites for the flag with many so called experts, Collingwood the same a couple of years back.

All is not as it seems.

Darling still demands respect. Priddis, Masten, Shuey, Gaff, Wellingham and potentially Yeo and Ellis rotating through the midfield means that forwards will get a constant supply. Cox is a star and Gawn will not be able to keep up...yet.

We could and probably will be 0-5 by mid April.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
